As stated, just use Google, and type in site:rdtiburon.com

Redzman, "the techs" can't write our own search function. Performing a good search is a very hard thing to do, searching and sorting are two of the hardest problems in computer science. That's how Google got so big so fast, their search algorithm was revolutionary.

Would there be interest in adding a "Google search" to RDT? We could set that up.

^^ I already added a google search last week. Your right though, Techs can't just rewrite the code the site uses. Alot of it is closed source except for the way stuff looks.

Uhm, I don't believe I ever said you guys could write your own search or anything.

I know some stuff can be hidden, and that there are other options on sites like Invisionize and such.

Don't put words in my mouth Zoned.

You said earlier in this thread that you want us to "fix stuff or its time to fire them" .. Considering this thread is SOLELY about the SEARCH functionality of this site, I thought it was a fair assumption to make that you were implying we "fix" the search.

Whatever. The Google search is there, so it's all good now. I didn't realize you did that java. I guess this is over.

Exactly, I said I wish you guys would fix stuff.

Look at the date and time of the post, it was before you started doing anything.

I'm sure there's a way to get rid of the current search in favor of the old one, by changing the search link to the direct "ADVANCED MORE OPTIONS LINK".

I just don't know how to do it.

Change the current search link to this...

http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?s=&...ode=adv&f=0

And that should help some. The search still sucks though.

java, any way to embed that Google search on our search at the top?

I think it's confusing to have so many searches and search options here.

Java, have you seen all the stuff you can do with the Google custom search? You can add logos, colors, attach an XML Sitemap so that it will crawl every page on this forum.. Google has the best search of anything.

Personally, I think we should scrap the IPB Search entirely, and just use Google's Custom Site Search. I know that's what you have now, but do you know about all the features and cool stuff?

I can work on setting it up this week if you guys think it sounds like a good idea.

If you want to tweak the google search some more be my guest. I agree with you, google search is much better than the IPB search.

Can't we just change the links in the skin for the search function to go to our google search?

If not, why not make a new link like the Shoutbox one, and make the current "SEARCH" block invisible or delete/hide it?

is that possible?

Redz, that's what I was suggesting. Remove IPB Search entirely, and make our site's Search links go straight to Google.

The only thing here is that you lose the ability to search posts by name and date. Although, since the search will be so much better, you might not need that any longer...
