Ok, so let's talk. Teach me Tib.

What is the more popular? 1 or 2G?

What parts are interchangable between them, as far as back dating 2G brakes on the 1G in this case?

Which one has the most 'interest' in doing such mods?

What kits are out there now for either of them?

Help me and I'll help you!

well considering veilside put in the r&d for a kit for the 2g, id say 2g. but since you can change the captive rotors on a 1g to the ones on a 2g, i THINK it could be the same kit. http://shop.hyundaiperformance.com/shop/cat.php?c=1 here are some kits.

and many of the 1st Gens do not have the captive rotors (mine doesn't) so I would go from there... The GK model (current tiburon) may have captured the fancy of many tuners at the moment.. but there are more RDs on the road presently.. and one of the first mods many of us make are rims...

I think you should be able to swap them between the 1G and 2G. Another bonus would be the Elantras, I believe you can currently swap the brakes between them and Tibs. You may be able to get three different vehicles out of one kit Todd.

Correct on all counts gentlemen.

The 2nd gen is the most popular of the 2. Most parts are the same between the 2. The captive rotors on some of the 1st Gen Tiburons would have to be replaced but I don't remember what this takes, if it's just replacing the rotor or something else. You can research it at HA.com (Hyundaiaftermarket.com) and you will definately figure it out. Tibs and Elantras are based on the same chassis and use the same brakes and many other parts. There is a big market for the Elantras also, you can find this out on www.elantraXD.com or at HA.com also. The most popular and cheapest way to convert to a BBK is using the XG 350 calipers and rotors, but Sharkracing is the only place to really get them, and they do NOT have a good record.

If you need sizes and measurements, e-mail me at skyline622@2by2.net and I can help you out.

I had a bbk on my car before it got stripped. I'll take some measurements for you if thats what you need.

Ok, I'm following some of this.

You seem to say that the brakes, at least rotors, are interchangable between the early cars and what we now call the 2G. How about calopers? I'll assume yes for now. Are they both bolt on set ups or are they floating on cast ears of the spindle?

I'm not clear on what you consider or call 'captive' rotors. You mean that the hubs and rotor are one piece and that the rotor is not a slip on over the hub type?

As for cars, ok. I'll toss this out; find me a local with a 2G car and we'll talk. Any Phoenix area members??

I would be interested, but would like to know an estimated price before saying YES. Compare it to the BREMBO kit that the store at hyundaiperformance.com offers. I've really been considering this lately and I'm willing to go with it. I'm sure you could get 10 people involved if you have competitive prices, but if it's more than the BREMBO kit, you may not get many interested. I do like the black calipers instead of the normal red that I see. I would also make a safe guess that people who are wanting a Big Brake Kit will already have 16" 17" or 18" wheels, wouldn't they?

I am not sure if we have any members in or around Phoenix. I am sure we could find someone through the other sites though....
