Re: headlight bulbs
Bleh, I would think the stock dynos on a totally fresh engine 5 speed are like 120whp. Some of you guys modifying your engines with 60,000+ miles on them (stupid to modify a poor old engine like that) are going to lose power because the engine is just weakened over time. I'm sure those 109whp stock dynos are from old old cars.
Once I finish up my N/A modifications, I'll let you know what I run. So around May-June watch out for my dyno (AEM CAI, KSpec Racing Headers, 2.5in press-bent exhaust, 61mm throttle body, Air-Ram is my plan). I'll have like 15k miles on my engine then, so its fairly nice and fresh. Just gotta save up the 900 buckeroos that I need. Might have the 1.8 cam and crank pulley in by then too. tongue.gif

Re: Favorite car magazine?
My car dynoed 122whp and 123wtrq on a dynojet. random CAI and custom exhaust. Engine only had about 25 or 30k miles on it that ain't old. This was before I was s/c.

one thing i want to know is what gear is everyone dynoing in because some idiots dyno in 1st gear which is not the actual hp. the true hp reading is in 4th gear for a tiby cuz its closest to 1:1. There is a chart at my local custom shop and i think it said stock a tiby should dyno at about 90hp and 85 trq to the wheels in 4th gear. I dynoed on a dyno-jet after an intake and exhaust and got 124.8trq and 124.3 hp in 4th. i still need to dyno again though cuz i added a lightened flywheel all underdriven/lightened pulleys lightweight rims and a few other minor parts.
oh and one thing i forgot to add...my car has 79,900 miles on it so if you think your beta 2 is gona get weak as it gets older forget it, they're just breaking in.

I doubt anyone dynos in first gear... you could easily tell the readings were off. Either way, a 3rd or 4th gear pull is what 90% of cars use. If your shop thinks we should pull 90whp on a dynojet, they are on crack. This isn't a 1.6L Accent ;P 105-120 stock is the norm.
By the time you hit 80,000 miles, your engine isn't going to be in as good of shape as a fresh one. Your going to lose compression and your going to have slight wear and tear. Things are going to be dirty. If you pulled 124WHP with I/E, thats not bad. You probably would've pulled 115whp stock. That 5whp you lost over the best readings was because of lost compression, etc.

hey it's not their chart it was either some magazine or some national car association that ran all the tests and it did say that for a stock tibby in 4th (1.031) gear not 3rd(1.37)(noticeable hp diff between gears) because its not a true reading for a 5spd tibby. and remember how hyundai lied about their hp ratings...big class action suit...as for my engine gettin old and losing compression she's running as good if not better than the day I bought her, i doubt i have much wear because i've been changing the oil with redline and K&N gold filter every 2k as well as cleaning the injectors out about every other oil change from mile 1.

^^IJST..you are correct..your engine isn't old at all...mileage is an indicator of wear but more importantly then that, it depends on how the owner takes care of it..I've had workers ruine a company car at 25,000 miles cause they never took care of it and didn't change the oil!! I would worry more if the engine hits between 125,000 to 150,000 miles. smile.gif
My uncle had a Datsun with over 300,000miles!!! Ran good cause he took care of it..untill they stole it in NewYork!!

Your still going to lose some compression and have some buildup, no matter how well your maintenence is. How much is up to how well you maintain it. tongue.gif I was by no means saying 80k miles turns your car into a slug, but it can make a smidgeon of difference, especially when your running more power through it then it was designed for.
Hyundai lied on the newer cars I believe, like the GKs. I think some of those dynoed 140whp wink1.gif LOL... I don't know if Beta1s got those little refund thingies, but its mainly the autos that stink with the Beta1. Manuals dyno a respectable 15% drivetrain loss in comparison to Hyundai's HP rating.
True you want the closest gear to 1:1. However, its not that much of a difference, I've had a pull in 3rd and a pull in 4th come out within 3whp of each other on a dynojet. So the difference is negligible.
