went to the track last night..
lined up against a 2g eclipse. it was debadged, so i'm not sure if it was rs, gs, gst, or gsx. pretty nice car actually, the "high" spoiler (not sure what the mitsu guys call it), lowered. we only had 1 run against each other.
we were pretty much neck and neck the whole time. i would say i think he beat me by maybe 1/5 of a car length. afterwards i ended up talking to him a bit, he told me he had a turbo, "stage 2." then i noticed his huge intercooler. that kind of surprised me, i would think he would have beaten me by way more. so this made me happy. he's got $2k stuck into a turbo kit, i've got like $900 stuck in n/a mods and we're equal. tibs ftw!
i've got i/h/e/bbtb/airram
also, it may just be in my head, but i think i can definitely launch faster with my new struts/springs. much less wheel hop/spin. the car sticks to the ground better.

honestly, good almost kill. fing02.gif
not saying anything bad about the tib. but his car must be messed up, or he must have really messed up his shifting or launching..
if the car was stock lookswise, it woulda been probably been a GSX, but coulda been a GS-T. those both run a sub 15 stock. the 'stage II' kit in DSM lingo is usually a big 16g turbo and a FMIC setup. this should put them into the mid 14 range or less.
with i/h/e/bbtb/airram at best the car would be about .5 slower which is like a bunch of car lengths behind. lol
don't listen to me, but if his car was in decent shape it shoulda taken you by way way more.

that's what i thought. we were basically side by side the whole race, neither of us ever saw the other's rear 1/4 panel even.
after i left, i was wondering if maybe he was automatic..
oh yeah, he said "it runs like crap in warm weather" .. i didn't really know how to take that.

that could have been part of it. the autos in those cars weren't very good, especially at higher miles.
my 97Tsi was an auto and on colder days it would barely even engage. even on warm days it would slip all over the place. it had like 82k miles on it. if this guy beats on his car and its an auto then he is a moron..
did he seem like a moron with a ricer/2f2f attitude, or did he seem informed about his car?

the "stage 2" reference made me think he was more of the f2f kinda guy, but i suppose when companies actually make turbo kits for your car, it would be OK to reference it like that.

yeah his car must have been messed up or not tuned right. if you're talking about a gsx turbo (gsx has the only stock turbo) then those things are really quick. i've seen one just pull away from every street light.
if he put the turbo together than he didn't do it right. but i'll bet your car is pretty quick too. you would be surprised what taking out the spare and the seats will do.also you need a cf hood to shed some pounds!!

nana.gif GS-T is also turbo.. GSX is AWD, GS-T is FWD. both have the 4G63 powerplant with same turbo systems stock.
the simple stage II kit that DSM guys call it is a direct turbo swap to the EVO big 16g turbo and a FMIC kit.
odds are he probably got the evo big 16g and a FMIC kit from something like slowboyracing.com. they sell both, and that would easily make the car much faster than stock.. with 2,000$ worth of parts you can get your DSM into the high 13s. stock turbos push like 8psi, but they usually push 14-16 on the 16g turbos.
zoned, did you look to see if he had an SAFC or anything?

mid 13's to low 13's actually, not to intrude or anything. i got a buddy who has a 2nd gen eclipse gs-t w/ big 16, 3" maf, 3" dp, cat-back, big fmic w/ hardpipes, 660cc injectors, 255lb fuel pump, tuned on stock internals, and he ran a 13.7. pushed 312 horses and 299 torque to the wheels off 22 psi's.
but he's a crapping driver, granny shifts, he's afraid to blow a tranny again. with his trap speeds he should easily be high 12's, 117 mph, trap speeds.

well with 16 psi and just the add-ons with no real tuning mid to low 14s would be more realistic.
my buddy had a AWD TSi with big 16g and a better SMIC with dsm link, bigger injectors, and catback.. ran a freakin 13.7. i was so impressed.
