Okay, the boot release is now working! Turns out the switch is faulty. It works as a switch, power gets to the wiring connector, but for some reason the solenoid won't work with the switch connected. I simply hotwired the wiring harness connector and the solenoid fired! So I'll try and find another switch. Naturally, it is the only switch that I didn't take from the spare parts car the other week.

I fixed the fuel door as well. The striker needed some WD-40, and the door itself needed some more preload from the sprung hinge. That was a nice simple fix, but I still need to re-attatch the broken emergency release handle. It is super claustrophobic back there!

I tried swapping over the first generation centre panel air vents into my own panel, but they are subtly different. They changed the switches, stereo surround and air vents between the two generations of s-coupe. It looks like I'll just have to put up with the dodgy air vents and cracked plastic for now!

As far as the rocker arm is going, I've made no progress yet. I had a $250 parts car slip through my fingers, so I'm just trawling classifieds for another one. I haven't done as much work on this car as I really should. The next project is going to be rebuilding the turbo, but I'm still in the research stage. I can't find a solid answer about rebuild kits: Will a kit designed for a VW TDI T15 be suitable for use on my turbo? It is an understandably hard question to answer, so I might try and find a kit locally rather than from the wider internet.

A bit of a boring essay I know, I swear I will do some interesting stuff soon. Just... have to... get... off... HA...

As long as the turbo is the same, the kit should work.

Anything cam related on a Hyundai makes my nether regions look for a place to hide...

Torque wrench stuck when we were replacing cams on my buddies RD2, I ended up stripping one of the bolts off and going into a micro panic attack...

As for the switch, the contacts inside may need to be cleaned up a bit, over time they tend to pit and corrode.

be sure to only attempt disassembly inside a plastic baggie or an area you can find the spring loaded bits that may or may not search for freedom...

And something else I saw, they screwed up and put the steering wheel and pedal assembly on the passenger side!

After deciding to inspect the king pins today, I dismantled the mirrors. The king pin boot looks absolutely destroyed, and the inner strut bushing looks dodgy as well. Those will need to be fixed up prior to going over the pits.

Anyhoo, both power mirrors worked, but were really dodgy. They were quite notchy and noisy, so I decided to pull them apart. Besides, there was some light rust poking out of the passenger mirror base that would need attention.

I'm very thankful that I decided to do the driver's side as well.

I got rid of most of the rust, but ran out of daylight, so I went into the garage to tackle the mirror. Here it is with the glass removed.

I felt like a wizard...

Btw I told you guys I would let you meet my pet spider!

This determined mofo managed to build a good solid cobweb between the mirror and door, every single day. +1 internets to whomever can guess what breed it is, because I have no idea. I put it into the garden to defend my chillies from afids and my sister. The mirror comes apart quite easily, and is very simple once you get down to it. Here is the base in surprisingly good condition!

Its all lithium greased and re-assembled now. I just need to repaint the aluminum base, the paint is flaking and it looks manky as hell. I also need to do the entire passenger side now. Also, I found some more rust under the door seal. What a pleasant surprise!

So that's it for now. I'll see if I can't get both mirrors back together by tomorrow evening. I've got the rust convertor and fish oil ready so I won't have to do this job again. I wonder if I can order in new base gaskets at the dealer? Anyways, cheers for reading, more updates soon.

Well, 18 months ago, I jumped into the beta accent to go and enquire at the dealership about getting some new mirror gaskets. The accent got a defect notice and thusly sucked up all of my project car hours. ANYway, now that the accent is all done, what does 18 months of sitting in the driveway with a window down look like?

In other words, this car is currently a leaky (in more ways than one) pile of headache. So my first priority was to get it sealed up. Now where was I on those mirrors?

Flapwheel back the rust, throw some weak acid on there to neutralise the rust, and coat it with etch primer, rustoleum and hit it with a rattlecan of garnet red metallic. The window run track is also rusty, but I'm considering ignoring it, or just pouring a bunch of rustkill down the track and hope that it neutralises most of it. Thankfully rust is barely a problem where I live, so I have the luxury of being a bit lax with some rust treatments.

...spider number two...

I postulate that there are at least two more scary as f*ck australian monstrosity spiders living in the s-coupe. I should call this car "Peter Parker", considering it's red and very much friendly with spiders.

As we can see, there's a fuckload of work to do. First priority is to get it sealed up, and then I'll start chasing up a parts car to get it back to a running condition. At the moment, there are just too many half-started projects going on for my dome to co-ordinate.

Driver's side mirror is finally done! All the door rust is gone, the base has been sanded back and repainted, and the whole thing has been rebuilt and is functioning again. The driver's window is now up and that's all sealed. So I started on the passenger's mirror...

Rusty rubber? Okay...

Somebody has been living in here.

I tried CPR but homeboy was long gone

BECAUSE THIS DICKHEAD KILLED HIM AND TOOK OVER AND THEN RAN AT ME

So that's all disassembled at the moment. I'm not going to bother stripping the module back to the motors, because the driver's mirror was just as whiny and notchy after I put it back together. However the aluminium base is in dire need of a freshen up.

This door base was even worse than the driver's side...

And that's where I am at the moment, no more sunlight. There seem to be three door pressings that join at the front of the door. I don't quite know what I'll do here as the rust is pretty hektik. Bog just seems improper, maybe it won't be toooo hard to get some sheetmetal bent up to fit in there, I just don't know. I still have to get rid of the rest of the rust anyway.

There's actually so much work to do on this car though, fwark.
