Is your job a paycheck or passion?

Default Is your job a paycheck or passion?

I think everyone struggles with their jobs but I find it interesting how some people totally get into their work, almost to a point where that's all they live and breathe. I work for a solid company but I enjoy my weekends and once 5:00pm hits it's my time and I leave work behind. There are some who take work home with them or think about it 24/7. I guess I just can't relate to that. In a way I think this is a sickness and not healthy. I work hard while at work but I also know where my priorities fall and that's with family and personal time.

There is a guy at my company who is like this. Crazy insane for work. I feel sorry for his family that's all I'm saying. I don't think I've ever heard the guy at work talk about anything else.

There needs to be a balance in life. That's why people get stressed out although he doesn't ever seem stressed. He's just a work freak and for some odd reason gets into his profession. I could understand this if it was his company and he was building it from the ground up, but hes not even senior management.

In my case, it's just a paycheck.

I work for a great company. I'm good at what I do. I like what I do. I get paid well for what I do.

My wife works her ass off. She loves it. She's a perfectionist and a hard worker, and she gets great satisfaction and hella recognition for being a bad ass. She lives her job, but that's why she's nearly tripled her salary in the last 5 years, and I think she's about to get promoted for the 5th time in as many years.

Just won best in state for the third year in a row, but I hate my job due to a few people that ruin it.. I try to not let it get to me, but its not easy. I am going to get moved to something I hate even though I have the awards to show I am good at what I do. Why would they do that? No idea.. but they are... LOL

I was definitely 'that guy' you described in your first post. Always going above and beyond.. But I grew up, realized it was getting me nowhere. A measly raise maybe and the respect of my superiors and coworkers is all, but usually guys like that are the first to get assigned NEW tasks and the bar continually gets set higher & higher. A few years back I actually took a different job that paid $2/hr less but I enjoyed it and got my weekends. Now I earn a salary and though I'm not doing what I want to do (my passion) I am at a comfortable spot where I dont feel it necessary to bring my work home with me anymore and can simply collect a paycheck. The dream job however is on the horizon (on the waiting list for it) and once that comes I know I'll look forward to going into "work" while I collect a substantially larger paycheck!

You work to earn money to be able to live the life you wish for the given finances. Do what you can to maximize your income while have as much enjoyment as possible. We should work to live. We shouldn't live to work.

If you hate your job, get out. Life's toooo short to hate more than half of everyday.

Definitely like my work, do well at it, and try super hard all the time. However, as soon as I leave work, it's totally off my mind. Couldn't care less about it, and rarely talk about it at home other than a short story on occasion.

Just a paycheck, but I love doing what I do.

I can't say i love what i do, but i'm good at it.

There's always the satisfaction after you complete a job (especially if you beat book time) that i love which is why i don't mind waking up everyday and going there. And everyday is different, no repetition

I am just in it for the money though
