I thought about doing that, actually. But then i'd lose everything that's saved to it. tongue.gif

UPDATE:
Son of a sfd;hdfjkhns damnit.

Just typed my serial number and information into the Xbox warranty website... and I see this:

Warranty Expiration: 11/15/2007 6:59:59 PM

If only it had broken a month ago. >_<
This is ridiculous.

Call them anyways! I think all warranties were extended to 3 years or something like that.

Yup, all warranties were extended to 3 years. I'd just send it in and let them deal with it.

The 360 seems like such a pain in the ass, I came really close to buying a broken one on eBay and repairing it. After about 2 days of research, I found a huge amount of information about how to fix various problems with it from the Ring of Death to DVD ROM errors and video errors. After much consideration, I decided that it was just too much of a risk, even if I could fix the damn thing there was no guarantee that the fix would last any longer than just a couple months. Microsoft has designed the thing so poorly, it suprises me that people still voluntarily buy it. I'd love to have one, but I'm not going to spend a few hundred on something that I'm going to have to be performing intensive surgery on constantly.

I ended up just buying a regular XBOX. The platform is stable, the games are cheap now, and I got a used one on eBay for a good price. I used to own an original XBOX, but left it with some friends I used to live with, like a total idiot.

That's ONLY on the 3 red lights issue. I called them last week and they said it would cost me ~150 to repair, plus I had to pay for shipping both ways.
My regular one-year warranty expired Nov 15.

However, I now have good news! I got home last night, turned on my XBox, and saw... THREE RED LIGHTS! I almost peed my pants I was so happy. I called up the hotline again and told them what had happened, and the whole tone of the conversation changed. "Yes, sir. We'll mail a box to you and you don't have to worry about anything. The 3 red lights is a known issue and there is a 3 year warranty for this issue." Etc, etc.

I never thought I would be happy to see the red ring, but it means I don't have to pay to get it fixed. laugh.gif

Now I have to go 3 weeks without my xbox though, which is going to suck since I use it to stream divx movies from my computer to my TV...

The first 360 I bought, I brought it home, and immediately out of the box it froze up, had overheating issues. Brought it back to the store, 2nd one worked great, however gears of war kept getting read errors. Went back and got another copy of Gears, worked fine for a while, then same issues. RMA'd the 2nd 360, got a new one a couple days later. Had the same overheating issue the 1st one I got had. Sent it back. Got the 4th one, which works fine.

They're good while they last fing02.gif
