My guess is that since your asking about this, that you have had a close call or some other run in that has made you think about personal protection. I think a stun gun like what an officer carries is the way to go handheld tazers have drawbacks. You have to make contact with your attacker to use it for 1. Probably not something you want to do if you think you have to protect yourself from them. Pepper spray again needs to be used in colse range and gets on everything including you. If you have asthma or other respritory issues this is not for you as it can cause an asthma attack. Just my $0.02

The ones the officers use, they are trained to use. They are one-shot deals, and when that fails the officer has a firearm as backup. If you miss, you are screwed.

As your location says you are in Houston, I'll point out that Texas law says you can have a loaded gun on you or in your car (if it is concealed) without a license:
*in your house
*in your car
*between your house and your car
*between your car and your house
*on the road
*anywhere the proprietor says it is OK, including your own business if you run the show

So if you don't have a TX CHL, but you can convince your boss to let you carry at work, you can be armed 100% of the time. If you can't carry at work, you can leave it concealed in your locked car.

I'm not a lawyer and I don't even play one on TV, but if you are worried that someone in particular is about to need a shootin', you should probably contact the HPD and get a restraining order so when they DO eventually come around, if they live through you shooting them, they can be locked up for a while.

P.S. unless you are silly the odds of being caught carrying a handgun without a license are slim to none. I can't recommend it and I'm sure Hyundaiaftermarket.com would tell you to comply with the law, but until you can get a concealed handgun license issued . . .

wow

i actually agree with stocker for once

a pocket knife is useless for a female unless she has received extensive training on how to use it. realize you have to wait until they are with in arms reach to stab em. plus the fact that most women lack the upper body physic to put alot of force into a swing.

MOST males can easily overpower a female and take a knife away.

hell in a panic situation IF you get one good swing in youd be lucky. you wont get a second swing.....

all of those 'non lethal' defense sh*t is worthless im telling you

THEY ARE OUT TO CAUSE YOU GREAT BODILY HARM

if you INSIST on not getting a gun, take a self defense class. a prepared mind is your best tool

if you find yourself in a uncomfortable situation YELL BEFORE they have a chance to attack you bring as much attention to yourself as possible dont wait for them to attack you because you may not be given the chance to yell. for some reason, people are ashamed to bring attention to themself when a strange person walks up to them.....

I greatly disagree with a lot of the posts in here. I am a concealed carry advocate, but ONLY if you are willing to put in the work. It costs me easily $500 a year in ammunition and a LOT of time to stay proficient enough with a pistol to feel that carrying one is the best option for me even.

In general, if faced with an attacker he won't have a gun, at least not out. If he has a gun drawn and pointed at you, he is running the show until he takes it off of you or turns away long enough to use your weapon whatever that weapon is. I don't care if he has a .22 pistol and I have a concealed hand cannon, he's gonna have a chance to shoot me before I can draw and aim at him.

If he doesn't have a gun out and doesn't physically have a hold of you, you can spray him with either lead or a chemical spray.

It is a lot easier to hit someone with an aerosol chemical spray than a pistol. In a lot of gunfights literally hundreds of shots will be fired without anyone being hit ever. A lot of the times people can miss at 5 feet or less. I personally missed an entire elk at 12 feet when I was hunting. So it DOES happen. With a spray you watch and move it until you get the attacker. The only chemical sprays I would suggest contain 4 components. Pepper spray, mace, tear gas, and UV dye. I can recommend brands, etc. if someone wants that info.

If you are willing to put in the time and effort, carrying a handgun is a better defense than anything else short of packing a long gun. If you're not, then you're more likely to end up killed by your own weapon than using it to defend yourself effectively. Just whatever you do don't pack a gun if you don't do the additional work required to prepare yourself for using it.

Never buy a stun gun or tazer. They are useless as defensive weapons. Stun guns are a decent offensive weapon against an unexpecting target thought. A lot of muggers, rapists, etc. have started carrying them.

Concealed Pistol and an anti rape condom (yes they make them) if ya cant shoot him hes gonna overpower you and shits gonna happen, sorry but it does. As Faith said a prepared mind is your best tool. A swift kick to the balls can usually knock a dude dead on his ass for long enough to get away, id say just go take a self defense class and get to know the squishy and vunerable points of the human body.

Anti Rape condoms are basically female condoms but the inside is lined with one way barbs, so once the "creep" trys to remove "himself" the condom latches on and can only be surgically removed, there quite painful from the stories ive read about attacks.

Right, so then you will have a person who is already ready to do violence against a weaker opponent thrown right into a killing rage. Those barbed vaginal inserts are a BAD idea.
