I would say rule out the SRT-4, from what I understand their terribly unstable past 110 Mph, plus their ugly IMO.
Im in the same situation, deciding if I want my next car to be a WRX STi or an EVO VIII.
If it helps the wrx has 300hp/300trq stock, the evo has I THINK 276hp stock, torque is around there somewhere too.

I think if your going to buy it when you get back, decide then. Who knows what will be out.
And like someone else said, keep the tib as the beater so you don't always use the better car.

SRT-4s are very stable for FWD @ 110mph. Not floaty at all. I should know, I drove an 11 second one at VIR. Granted, it does look like a Neon, but thats all the fun isn't it? Take off the hood scoop and even the spoiler and your a Neon. Think how much fun the Civics at stoplights will be then. You could give them a two second head start and catch them by 30mph.

I agree...if you're gonna get a car, get the Evo..the SRT doesn't handle well and it still says "Neon" which damages the prestige factor

Do you plan on modifying these cars at all, or leaving stock? STi can't be made much faster, but the Evo can. And you get that ownage waranty, even though Subaru has a decent one as well I think.

SRT-4 isn't sitting on a Neon's chassis. Everything is better than what a Neon's is. Think a Tib with 230whp, but with aftermarket springs, shocks, thick swaybars, etc. I think they have LSDs as well, I've seen very good 60' times out of them.

um.. last I read.. the SRT4 starts life as a neon shell.. all the good bits are added later.. which means that it still has that suspension that allows very little adjustment and almost no travel... it is however, stable in a straight line because the camber on the front wheels is forever set to 0 degrees.

Honestly, 18 months is a long time to let a car just sit.. I would be tempted to sell it, hoard the money and when you come back.. buy a nicer tib and play with that... the subaru is nice too...

It's not that long man.

Doode, my car was in storage for 18 months, it's no biggie. The army will even put it in monitored storage and start it for you while you are gone.

NOT TO MENTION, if it's not paid off, the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act REQUIRES that all your creditors cut your interest rate to a VERY low rate. It's either to 6%, the Prime Rate, or 0%, I don't remember. This applies to ALL your creditors.

So, you could PAY off your tib completely, and with the money you'll get for going to the sandbox for 18 months, you can have enough saved up to have everything you'd ever want for your tib. That's what I did while I was in Korea for 18 months.

Don't get rid of the tib doode, you'll never forgive yourself.
