Ok, here goes. There's a very good chance I'll be taking an 18 month vacation to Iraq come June, courtesy of the US Army. Anyways, once I get back, I'll have somewhere between $30k-40k saved up. Now, once I get back, what do you think I should do with it? *Note* I'm looking to keep at least $10k of it.

Honestly, 18 months is a long time to let a car just sit.. I would be tempted to sell it, hoard the money and when you come back.. buy a nicer tib and play with that... the subaru is nice too...

Unfortunately, it won't be sitting for 18 months. Either my mom or my younger brother will be driving it alot. Meaning it's gonna have even more miles on it (right now it has about 45k on it). I hope to God my little sister doesn't drive it while I'm gone.

Save that money or use it towards buying a home.

Overall the SRT-4 is the better platform... the STi's block is relatively weak if you want to really boost the shizzle out of it. Same with the WRX. they start running out of room @ 350-400AWHP. SRT-4 is good for a lot on the stock block.

Subaru has a better warranty I think though... and from what I've seen with my mom, the dealers are nice. Dunno about Dodge... but its only 3/36k. SRT-4s are dead sexy in that orange though.

The Evo is nice but expensive. I would buy the SRT-4 for 18k new if you want, and keep the 22k for a house or whatever.

well.. if you are worried about what shape the car will be in when you get back.. I would definatly sell it. My father had a Beautiful 1961 Chevy Impala Convertable with the 409 in it when he went to Vietnam in 1967. When he got back (after extending) the car was gone and only a small block was sitting in the garage after his brother (my uncle) thrashed the car to death and then sold it off.

Why would you ask such a question though? Do you want a new car for yourself? Or other people....

SRT-4 would be the best bang for the buck, you could buy a new one for just about the same price as a used STI.

SRT's home is going straight though.. so it all depends on what he wants. The little neon has even less ability to have it's suspension adjusted than our tibs
