The wife bought a Ford Exploder before we met and it's on its last legs. She drives about 60 miles round trip getting 18mpg. We need something large and fuel efficient (doesn't everyone).
I've been looking at the minivans, particularly the Toyota Sienna. They actually look extremely nice inside, but after researching the MPG of that and the Honda Odyssey, they only get 24mpg at best! Owner's are complaining about getting much less, around 18mpg.
Anything else, besides a regular car?

Wife drives 2009 Nissan Murano. Averages 19mpg consistently, but she drives harder than I do in my Genesis. It's the most comfortable vehicle we could find when we were searching, and quite possibly the ugliest. We've had it since April 2008 and it's at 130k miles. I'd love to replace it with something that gets better gas mileage, but now she's looking at a QX80
I drove a Chevy Captiva rental car last weekend. It was averaging 26mpg but the car sucked. Perhaps because base model fleet vehicle, but meh.
Get a Santa Fe Sport or Tuscon, they're like 27-29mpg. Or, wait for the Tuscon FCEV to release

If they were older, a car wouldn't be a problem. But, getting infants into carseats in a small car while you're 6'1" is a PITA to bend yourself into while hitting your head on the roof and placing 30lbs into the correct position...buckling up.....ugh!!! Not to mention 2 carseats are wider than a standard seat, so they overlap a bit. Then don't forget all the crap they require you to lug around in the back and next to them. Oh the joys of fatherhood.

Check out the Sienna. I was actually surprised at how nice the "vans" are these days. http://www.toyota.com/sienna/photo-gallery.html
