What are some ways you can lower car insurance? And please no smart a** comments like "dont speed" or "stop hitting cars" etc etc wink1.gif
1. Good grade discount
2. Defensive driving--are there other classes you can take and how often can you take them?
3. Car alarm-- about how much did this usually drop your insurance? and do all insurance comp have this?

I asked my insurance lady yesterday about these 3 and she said I already have good grades and the driving part. She said theres not much else I can do to lower it. I sent her another email askin about the car alarm sine she didnt say yes or no to that. i just feel they are shady a** people so I thought id ask all of yall some other ways...

Thanks!

Well... I just had the title for my car put in my mothers name, and had her insure it. Her insureance works as, If she gives verbal permission to let someone drive the car, they are covered... She has never driven my car, and I pay 190$ every 6 months, and im 19.

Plus ive totaled my car out once, and been in 2 other accidents... None of which were my fault, but I was still driving.

I have AAA

Ive got State Farm and got my insurance down from $300 a month to $99 a month

Here's what Ive done:

Multi line discount (life insurance and car insurance)

Multi car (my mom and brother have same company)

Defensive Driving

ABS (dont actually have it but they dont have to know, lol)

Accident free (which is BS)

I've also reduced the coverage to bare bones since I own the car outright and raised the deductible to $1000 from $500.

I was just reading over my policy the other day. I have Allstate, and discounts are given for:
-Daytime Running Lights
-VIN # Etched in all glass
-No Accidents in the past 3 years
-No Accidents in the past 5 years & no violations in the past 2
-Active Theft Deterrent (Alarm that can be heard from 300 ft for at least 3 minutes)
-Passive Theft Deterrent (Ignition Kill)
-Defensive Driving Course
-ABS

Where do you take defensive driving lessons? Sounds like fun!

phorq - I work for an Allstate agency and have Allstate Ins. and have never heard of these or know how to get these discounts on a policy.

-Daytime Running Lights
-VIN # Etched in all glass

The major discount that gives the biggest savings is the no incidents. 3 or 5 years, bigger saving for the 5 year discount.

Most company's discount for car alarm discount is only like 5%.

Maybe the VIN etching and running lights are a NY only thing, cause I saw that on my policy too.

if you go online to geico or progressive and fill out a quote form, it will have a list of check boxes for things you have on your vehical like alarms and safety devices that they give discounts for.

Meh, didn't feel like re-typing all that. That's what I received in the mail a couple days ago.

Two ways I have found so far smile.gif

Get married or put your car in someone elses name (who you really trust) and then let them add your car.

Both take trust of course, and you should be a good driver 'cos you're risking someone elses shit smile.gif
