It varies from State to State. Google is your friend, there are whole websites devoted to this very subject. Generally speaking if you can see it from the street and film it without obstructing them, you can film Police doing their thing. Unless it's specifically illegal. YMMV.

Yeah, definitely check your state laws. They've been really pushing people around over this. Know and exercise your rights, but be careful.
