Traffic Stops In New York City Just Dropped An Insane 94%

All the lunacy going on between New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the New York City Police Department has had one bizarre side benefit for any fans of hooning, according to data obtained by the New York Post. Traffic enforcement has basically ceased, turning the city into a Mad Maxian-automotive playground.
Well, I'm not entirely sure on the Mad Max part, but it seems inevitable, as traffic stops have dropped 94% since December 22nd:
In the same time span, tickets for parking violations are also down 92%, according to the Post. Also, New York City is apparently awesome now as arrests for public drinking and urination are also down 94%.
Sure, the drop in traffic citations is probably somewhat attributable to the holiday season, but even then that is a staggeringly massive drop. In December 2013, the NYPD issued 71,385 moving violations, and while December 2014 isn't over yet, the city isn't likely to come anywhere near that number issuing only 587 tickets over two weeks.
The Post is speculating it's all part of a slowdown strategy from the NYPD unions, in protest of what the Force feels is a pattern of unsupportive behavior (real or not) from Mayor de Blasio. There's decent evidence to support this theory.
The Mayor plans to meet with the unions today to mend fences, so the fun might not last too long.
In the meantime, pictured above is the NYPD saluting your fully sikkkkkkk burnouts down Houston Street today. Also, please do not kill any children or the elderly while you're doing it, as it is nobody but the citizens who suffer when cops pull this kind of petulant crap.
And then we'll really have a fun conversation about whose got blood on their hands.
This probably wont end up being a good thing for the city of NY.

Angry union leaders have ordered drastic measures for their members since the Dec. 20 assassination of two NYPD cops in a patrol car, including that two units respond to every call.
It has helped contribute to a nose dive in low-level policing, with overall arrests down 66 percent for the week starting Dec. 22 compared with the same period in 2013, stats show.
Citations for traffic violations fell by 94 percent, from 10,069 to 587, during that time frame.

People who do crimes are the ones with blood on their hands. A communist mayor who gives the police zero support during the worst part of a bad 'protest' crisis and makes them out to be the bad guy, should not be surprised to find out that they don't-support him right back. It will be ugly to be in NY for a while, but I hope the people decide to lean on the mayor instead of the cops. I mean the actual new yorkers, not the out of towners and paid protesters causing trouble in the streets.

New York hasn't exactly burned to the ground because the small victimless crimes and revenue generating citations haven't been handed out. I don't see the surprise.

Reported arrests are no solid marker of criminal activity though. There are still uncontrolled variables. If police become highly efficient at detecting crime, then arrests will go up - this could be reported as an increase in the incidence of crime.
That being said, it's much more likely that their efficiency is being killed by work-to-rule activities.
Floyd have you heard of the broken windows theory? It's a pretty interesting explanation of why people get arrested for basically irrelevant crime.

North Korea is the master of this. All of those beautiful perfectly intact public spaces, nobody dares to even cut their hair in a disorderly manner.

Stockholm, Oslo, Singapore, and Tokyo are all ultra clean cities that experience bugger-all street crime.
Baltimore, Los Angeles, Detroit, Rio De Jeneiro, and Cape Town are all filthy shitholes that experience high street crime.
Of course there are other factors at play in those examples, however it's a proven thing that despite 'muh freedom to piss in public and graffiti this wall', curtailing that activity prevents more serious crime from occuring.

A subject asks: "Is this legal?"
A citizen asks: "Is this right?"
The majority of people currently have the subject mentality from above. Seriously if the only reason people don't rape, murder, and steal is due to a fear of jail we're already screwed. Our criminal justice system breeds this mentality. People are constantly bouncing ideas off of whether or not they could get arrested for a behavior, not whether or not it is right to do something. I think the only real reason it could be chaos to remove the petty laws is because our society is conditioned to do everything they can up to the line of breaking the law. Morality is removed from the equation.
If you remove speed limits and traffic control devices test cities have proven that speeds decrease, traffic accidents decrease, and general safety goes up. The reason is that nobody feels entitled to going a certain speed regardless of conditions. Nobody is pushing the edge of what they can legally get away with. They're forced to think about it and make those decisions on their own. It probably wouldn't work everywhere in every situation, but it works in small towns to medium cities at least.
