ok i found this car on autotrader it is priced about half wat it should be. i emaled the seller about it and they said that the car works great and there is absoulty nothing wrong with it. i asked why they are selling it so cheap and they said it was becasue she got the car in a divorce and is just tring to get rid of it. she also said that she works at ebay services and she wants to do the transaction through there. i said that i want to test drive it then give her the cash for it if i liked it and this is what she sent back.....

Hi,
Nice to see that you’re still interested in buying.
If we reach an agreement, the car will be delivered directly to your address.
It will be shipped by truck and it will take about 5-6 days to reach your address. The car is already sealed in a container along with all the necessary documents in San Jose, CA (ebay HQ) and is ready to be shipped for inspection/testdrive and/or to be bought. Everything has been paid for (inspections, shipping, staff, insurance, etc.) so you won't have to pay for anything else than the car.
To speed up the process I’m telling you in advance that for payment we should use eBay's security for such transactions.
The transaction will be fully under eBay's surveillance, giving us both security and insurance that nothing will go wrong. They will be the 3rd objective party involved in the transaction. This way you will actually pay for the car after you will receive and test it, because eBay will hold the funds in an escrow account and release it to me only after you accept and confirm the delivery. After the car reaches your address you will have 5 days to see and test it. Within this period you have to decide if you purchase it or not.
If you decide to take it you will have to contact eBay and let them know that, so they can release the payment to me. If you won't like it, the car will be shipped back to me and eBay will refund you. The shipping back will be done on my own expense, but I am sure this will not be the case.
To start the transaction with eBay, I will need the following details in order:
Full name:
Address:
Phone number:

All the best,

Erica

is this a legit deal or scam?

I'd say it's most likely a scam. They're going too far out of the way to prove it's legit before there's ever any question about it.

Ask for a VIN and run a CarFax. If they won't give you a VIN, don't pursue.

Ask what method of payment they prefer. I'd mess with them, and tell them you will give a location for the car to be dropped off but that you won't give out your personal address.

They say it's through eBay, but there's no eBay auction up? They'll probably come back and say they'll do it through the eBay system (since she works there) and avoid putting an auction up.

How far do you live from San Jose? Ask for HER address and personal information (since YOU are the one sending money). Then run the address and name to see if it matches.

its not a tib its an evo 8 for 4200 with 56000miles on it. its on autotrader.com

i was reading up about these escrow accounts and ebay says they only use escrow,com...so if the seller says to use something else then ill consider it a scam

Definitely a scam, no way someone would sell an Evo for that cheap, first of all.

Second, the only way you can purchase a car through ebay is directly through their site via online auction or classified ad. Never do they do any sort of transaction like this. The only reason she is mentioning ebay is to provide a false sense of security on your end so you think your payment will be protected. But in reality, it won't be through ebay at all. I'd e-mail all the information to ebay. They take these types of things very seriously. I'd also e-mail it to autotrader as well.

^^ What she said. Definitely contact ebay about it. Send them all the e-mail traffic and see what they say.
