I do like the flaps that control air flow into the engine.. with them partially closed at low engine speeds, that increases the velocity at which the air enters the engine.. with them fully open at high rpms.. you get full flow.. very clever.
Or constantly let air flow into the engine bay to constantly cool the engine, rather than letting some cooling be done at lower RPMs nad more cooling done at higher RPMs. I fail to see the point of having those flaps. I can understand ventilation towards the outside, similar to the Lambos, which open vents on the rear hatch to allow engine heat to escape,...when it reaches a certain temp. Now THAT would be clever.
Actually, if you look at the pics.. those flaps are inside the intake tract.. they do nothing but control air flow between the throttle body and the valves.. It is a similar idea to using a dual plane intake

On a slightly off-topic note....one of the GK Tib guys that have the Ripp SDS on their 2.7L Tib blew their engine again...for the 3rd time. The engine, not the S/C. An example of an aluminum block blowing under pressure. I know you guys prolly know this, many n00bs don't, so don't assume I'm talking to you specifically.

Can't you post links to this story of engines blowing up. I havn't heard anything and I surf on nt.com on a daily basis. Only engine I heard blowing up was running Alpines blower but not cause by the blower.

Aluminium blocks do not explode!! From running under high boost pressures increases the heat substancialy(not good at spelling). Aluminium blocks are made to withstand temps of about 150-200 Degrees higher then they normally run, by boosting this type of engine you raise the temp by well over that, and by pushing the heat that high, and having such pressures on the inside of the block, the cylinder walls deform and causes mass amounts of blowby due to lack of sealing by piston rings. also if you look at the pictures in that one article that was posted, there is no way to bore this engine to any amounts worth boring- maybe 1/8th of an inch at most, cause of the design it allows for maximum cooling to prevent the overheating of the block (thus created by the boosting). the only thing worth somthing out of this deal would be the VVT, which we can already get off the 2004 I4 tiburons, and the 6spd tranny that we all despertly need!
There is NOTHING wrong with boosing a beta engine, they are some of the best and strongest build bottom ends, excellent for boosting.

You are a Moron.

CVVT = SHIT

Difficult to work around for boost.

6 Speed = Shit.

I haven't needed one in 4 years, why would I now? Oh, that's right, for long distance cruising and fuel economy. Not.

Mmm...not everyone spends 24/7 online. This happened at a GK meet. And this happened to one of the first guys who fronted up the money for the SDS kit. If you go on NT.com and look for posts by TruTrent, you'll see that he blew his engine twice before, first one was his fault, so Ripp's gave him a new motor. This motor blew a second time, so he was given another motor, which brings us to now. I believe some of the fault comes from the Vortech blower, which some people have had problems with in the past. Since Vortech had some problems in the past, their financial situation forced them to cut some corners. However, they sought out help from Paxton, so Paxton and Vortech joined up, but still keeping their separate brand names. A couple of other people have had issues with the Vortech supercharger as well (you can easily Google it).

And to be honest with you, the Delta is NOT god. And I have no idea where you got the idea that aluminum engine blocks explode, 97Tibby...I said blowing an engine, not exploding. The Beta engine is great, if you want to be like a Honda, and aim for high HP and ok-to-low torque. Granted, there are better Hyundai engines to tune...like the 2.5L in the Sonatas. And no, a common misconception is that the 2.7L is an over-bore of the 2.5L...wrong! The 2.7L is a larger block for the over-bore. Not the same block bored out.

But now, we're deviating from the topic. All in all...the Theta is overrated. You want to aim for high boost on an aluminum block? Well...it's doable, but will cost you a lot of money, and I know that there are no RD Tiburon owners who have that...otherwise, you would have never bought the Tib in the first place.

Also, Redz, I believe someone disproved that the CVVT was actually helpful in boosting...b/c a bunch of people made fun of the fact that some Koreans just can't tune cars (this includes the whole Delta can't be boosted past 300 HP). wink1.gif
