To correct the problem you have with too much paint, you should sand down the paint with 200 grit, then 400 grit wapped around a sponge, then prep with alcohol. You should be ready for a respray after that.
You should pull off the logos and sand it with a pencil eraser. You get more control that way. that way you can mess up and go over without damaging the paint job.

^^ I actually painted mine today. I did this and the timing belt cover. I sprayed both parts completely down with brake cleaner to get rid of oils and dirt, I then cleaned them again, sanded both done perfectly with 400 grit, sprayed them again with brake cleaner to get rid of sanding dust. After that I did 2 light coats primer, one medium, and them a few coats of paint. The brake cleaner actually dissolves the glue that holds the DOHC and everything on there, so there's almost no effort involved. I just scraped the rest of the glue (more like goo after the brake cleaner) off with a razor. It's not a bad way I think. I'm DEFINITELY not the best with spray paint, specially compared to people like DTN, but I think they came out nice. I'm gonna let them dry and cure for like a week or so before I install them so hopefully I won't get heat bubbles.
Oh, and I used ceramic brake paint. It was the closest color high heat paint to my AEM intake. Not an exact match, but whatever... lol I might clear coat too but I don't know yet. Sorry for the long post, but I hope I helped some moo.

never try to peel paint off particular pieces after painting an entire area. it will ruin the rest of the job. use painters tape and mask off the areas. when painting, don't put heavy coats on. you should BARELY cover the factory color with the first coat when you paint, and keep that same level the same for all the color coats.
THIN coats. painting is not something you can rush.
