E-mail sent. It needs to be at least 19" high and at least 48" long. So make it 19" high and if it needs to be longer to stay in proportion that fine, I don't mind losing a little bit off the right of the image...
What's your "trick"? I was told you can't change the resolution. 02.gif I figured what if I printed it at it's original size and dpi and scanned it at a rate of 300dpi and THEN enlarged? But kinkos said no...

Not exactly sure how fast you need this picture. Probably will get it before I make it to the ocean.
I go to San Diego this friday and friends got a great camera. If you can wait almost a week I could take the picture of the beach (hopefully find an empty spot with no people).
I'll check the forum before I leave and if you got it already I won't bother. Just let me know if you still need it.

Right now, I haven't given up on that flickr.com photo. It's just too perfect for this project.
Hopefully purpletib can clean it up...
Otherwise, I've contacted the photographer (after MUCH reasearch I FINALLY found him, Viktor Elizarov) in hopes that he has a higher resolution original.
If those two fail, then yea. I'll update as neccessary and continue my search...
As far as a time frame, I'm looking to have the enlarged photo in hand by July 8th.
..So I've been reading about Adobe PhotoDeluxe (which I don't have..)
and apparently you can change a photo's resolution if you sacrifice a little bit size-wise.
my question is, can you then take that 6-by-4-inch 300dpi digital photo and blow it up to 4ft long and 1.5 ft. high? (hypothetically looking 3x better than my original attempt at blowing up the 96dpi image....)
It makes sense in my head... LOL

Digital images contain a fixed number of pixels per inch. You can increase the dpi (and therefore the resolution) by decreasing the dimensions of the photograph. For instance, if you have a photograph taken with a digital camera that is 1800 by 1200 pixels with a resolution of 72 dpi, you could obtain a 300-dpi resolution by decreasing the photo to a 6-by-4-inch size.

DPI is inversely proportional to the image's dimensions (in relation to it's original dimensions)
Increasing the image's dimensions decreases the DPI, decreasing the image's dimensions increases the DPI.
That's why things look like crap when you blow them up.
Oh and Pat, there's tons of free stock photo websites, not sure how many of the free ones have photos of that high resolution though.

^^^ That is true, but there is a sneaky way around that that is almost undetectable for blowing up images. fing02.gif
As far as your question goes, no, not technically. You will lose image crispness ANYTIME you blow it up. But there are methods that work, which is what I will be trying. Is the image you posted the same size as what you downloaded, (It is very small). If you have a slightly better version, e-mail it to me and I'll send you the blown up copy back. Otherwise, I can try it with what you posted here. I gotta run to work though, so I will make it a point to go to the college first thing in the morning and do this for you. If you can get a higher resolution version from the original photographer, that would be even better. It doesn't have to be huge, but the bigger the better.

I e-mailed you the largest version of the photo I can find (that is the size on flickr.com and on the photographer's website) ...1200 x 376 pixels size=89882 bytes.
For now, that's all I've got (no word back from the photographer).

i got a few panaramas from the mountains, like a large lake which stretches a couple pictures and then mountians on each side, probably wouldnt work for what your looking for but figured i'd pitch the idea

I NO LONGER NEED A PHOTO, I FOUND ONE THAT'S BETTER THAN PERFECT
So it's 1AM Pacific Standard, and I just got off the phone with a photographer, completely different from the Viktor Elizna-whatever guy...
He's agreed to send me a huge original copy of a beautiful beach on the islands hundreds of miles east of mainland Australia.
Now for legal reasons I cannot post the picture (don't have a watermarked version), but once the project is completed I can post (or "advertise") the completed masterpiece photos however I want..
So wait a month and check back to see the final product (if you're as tickled as I am to see this finished...) LOL
