DTN 10-07-2006 08:06 PM

I saw everyone b****ing about being poor, so I decided to make a thread about it.

I'm poor enough that I can't afford the turbocharger I've been wanting. I think i'm going to have to put a new clutch in my car on my own instead of having the mechanic do it. I just spent money on clear corners, a few scan systems, a clutch kit, RDT decals, Turbulence logos and started a fiberglassing project on the tib.

Ericy321 10-07-2006 08:19 PM

after buying my winter car and rebuilding the alternator and replacing the starter i dont have money to take my tib to the shop to get it running and i dont have time to do it myself. it sucks but not much i can do, it could be worse

Decco 10-07-2006 08:22 PM

I'm 16 and don't have a job.

SwiftTiburon 10-07-2006 08:26 PM

After putting almost 11k into the tib, paying rent for 6 months (when I lived in fredonia not nemore luckily), feeding two people one of which is a guy (lol), Im broke as ever.

I think i have a week to pay this one bill thats about 3k. Then I have my other college I went to, to pay, and two credit cards I want to pay off.

Im glad I have a job and my dad but its still real hard to manage. As you can see with my "one week to pay"
bill.

I hate bills..and money.

Osv4 10-07-2006 09:12 PM

Hmm..im 19..still in school..cant afford any more modds to the car lmao.gif dont have a job..i cant say im broke though..just cant spend money on the car..as my dad would say "why bother..its only a car"

Decco 10-07-2006 09:14 PM

I'm only going to work on the outside and the interior of my tib until I get the big bucks to tune it tongue.gif

Tibminn 10-07-2006 09:53 PM

I dont really wanna get into it too much, but lets just say if you remember this thread:

http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?showtopic=17890&hl

thats just the tip of the iceberg... it sucks to buy something expensive, guarenteed to be perfect, with no money, all in hopes to save money in the long run... and then have it become the biggest headache in the world... a headache which requires a ton of money i didnt and dont have.

zoned019 10-07-2006 10:12 PM

I'm 19, sophomore in college.
I f*ed up my financial aid, and now I have to come up with whatever loans won't cover since I doubt I'm getting my grants this semester..so there goes my bank accont..
I'm paying 20% interest on my credit card which has a $700 outstanding balance (yeah, no wonder the first 15 months were free, those f*ckers..there i go being ignorant again and not reading the fine print).
I was supposed to have a job, but I guess the b*ches decided not to hire me now? So basically, at this point, my bank account from working over the summer is gone, I'm unemployed, $700 debt I can't pay off (which I had enough money to but now I can't), and guess what, I just got 2 underage drinking tickets. Yippee..I've been drinking since I was a freshman in high school and I've ALWAYS gotten away, because I've never been stupid, it's easy to tell if a party is gonna get busted, I don't drink and drive, etc. I was responsible. Still am, but, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...twice in the past 3 weeks. That's another $500. I still live on-campus and only get 10 meals a week, and have no money to even eat some nights, so I just go to sleep and wake up and eat breakfast.
Times are rough...

But on the bright side, I can always go back to my old job for minimum wage, which I absolutely DESPISE and can't stand working there, but, it looks like I'm going to have to (that would be being a telemarketer btw, or fast food, my only two options at the moment). And I just landed a deal to build a guys website, which I told him I would do it all in flash but I'm only getting like $250 for it, I had to sell myself short because I was desperate and he's a good bargainer...normally I would get like $400 for that. 02.gif

So, I guess with websites and paychecks I can pay off the tickets, then over the next few months I'll just keep making the minimum payment on the credit card (eating the interest) and slowly pay that off...probably no modding the tib or going to the mall for quite awhile..

Alex01tib 10-07-2006 10:13 PM

I work at walmart, nuff said.

besides that, 1500 worth of credit card debt mainly because i had to pay for parts and neccessary expenses.

I just got paid 2 days ago and its gone, only enough to pay my $230 car payment and $220 of my $335 insurance payment, still have to pay a $185 dollars for the cell phone bill and make a payment for my paypal account (not much like 50 bucks). Not to mention gas money and parts for my tib that i hope i wont need (hoping something wont break) - just had to shell out another 53 bucks for a new 3 bar map sensor.

Hoping i can sell some stuff to make some money, im in the process of trying to sell the 1.8L cam and 1.8L ecu i have, for a little cashif that falls through look for a FS thread soon lol.

Oh guess i should say that im a junior in college and how i had to take a semester off because my family is poor now. My dad lost his job he had for 27 years because the company outsourced the factory to save money.

Im taking the semester off to help pay bills and ive been giving my parents alot of my paycheck which makes it harder to pay my own bills obviously

Also my sister quit her job not knowing her blazer's transmission was about to go bad, so she cant get a new job without a car (rural area). So i fixed up my moms old car (98 grand am) out of my pocket so that she can get a job, most of the reason my CC debt is so high.

ON the bright side:

Next semester im going to a school closer to home thats 8 grand cheaper per year and i dont have to move every 6 months so i hope i can get a better paying job.

Ericy321 10-07-2006 10:27 PM

ya im in school to. zoned, with the credit card cal them and tell them to cancel it because the interest is to high. they will lower it. you could probably get it down 5%. thats what i did and its a lot better. still cant afford it but it will help in the long run

Decco 10-07-2006 10:53 PM

Wow Alex, It's nice to see that you help out your family so much.

xxxmonoxidechild 10-08-2006 01:09 AM

house is getting foreclosed on, many bills hardcore past due, tibby isnt even insured anymore...

lets just say im not even barely making it right now. im working fulltime, and even overtime, but i dont make enough to even cover the house bills much less food, or anything for the car. the windshield has been busted out over a month now, the rear wheel bearing is howling driving down the road, and the drivers rear strut is blown and rattles at every bump.

pretty much everything is crap right now. but im doing my best to figure things out, i just look at it as it could be worse.

Korean_Redneck 10-08-2006 01:11 AM

Mad_john 10-08-2006 04:05 AM

i am poor to the point i was am still thinking of hoeing my self out for sex... i went and ask but i cant because korean giglo must have a small dick.. and i dont fall in that catagory.. so to speak i am black but white

SwiftTiburon 10-08-2006 07:15 AM

^lol

Here I go ranting a lil more.

With all the payment I have to make, Im about 14k in debt..and im friggin' 21. This isnt credit card debt either..school debt, and misc. debt.

I didnt get left a crapload when my mom died, and what I got I had to put into my tib and rent, and food, and then that was gone.

Its ridiculous, sometimes I feel stupid for putting all that money in the tib..other times Im like I cant dwell on it.

And no my dad doesnt give me money freely..but luckily he is my rock when I really need it. Luckily I dont have a scum bag for a dad.

Note to self: When credit cards are paid off..cancel and never use again. Ever.

Im 21, almost 22 and I dont have a job. I dont have a job because I broke my leg on July 4th of this year and just last week I started walking without crutches. So for the last 2 months I was in bed missing school and not making any money.

KCVoRTeX 10-08-2006 10:56 AM

I make $6 an hour and pay $500 in rent every month =P

javageek 10-08-2006 02:38 PM

Reading this makes me grateful that I am in the military. I thought we got paid bad! If all else fails anyone having a rough time financially can join the military. We get a guaranteed payraise at the beginning of the year and then we usually get another one in July. This year for instance my pay went up almost 200 a month because of the raises. That is not even considering the promotions. There was a time they were paying off a certain portion of your student debts, I don't know if that is still going on. Depending on the career field you choose you could receive a enlistment bonus of up to $8000. Keep in mind though that we are at war and the majority of career fields are deploying.

SOCKS_old 10-08-2006 02:51 PM

well.. lets see here.. i was entirely fuxored about 3 weeks ago.. i was laid off, didnt look like i was gonna get a job; the unemployment insurance agency was trying to deny my claim for my $$$$$.

i am still broker than broke, but i got a job.. a very freakin good one.. health insurance costs $46 a month, and i get it after 30 days, its a PPO smile.gif 18 vaca days after the first year smile.gif 401k, profit sharing, dual monitor workstation, blah blah.. BUT i am still freakin broke.

and now, my car decides to throw part of my pressure plate thru the side of the transmission, a couple bills were late, so i have late fees, i missed a credit card payment; so my minimum payment tripled; i am about 6000 in debt..

and now i just spent 1800 on a new clutch, radiator, transmission, flywheel, and i still am gonna need to get it all installed, and this ALL went on my credit card.. yah... suxorss...

holeshot69 10-08-2006 04:09 PM

Im 17 work one job 25 hrs plus / week go to school and drive a tib when I can? "Answer the the question with a therefore statement." Therefore I am broke. I race bicycles and do tuning and what not on the side for mods for the tib. I dont have a credit card or a debit card but I do have PAYPAL....it cripples me.

drewinator 10-08-2006 05:34 PM

Im 19, and work one job at 8.50 and hour Cdn and i work about 30 hours a week, i have a loan out for my car which isnt to bad at all, but i have to pay my cell phone bill.

I also help my mom out with the bills for the house every once in a while and then by the time im done with all of that i have almost no money left over to buy anything for the tib, im trying to save some money now by putting X amount of dollars off of every paycheck under my bed every 2 weeks but that just got all taken away because i just got an alarm put in my car today.

MKE 10-08-2006 09:50 PM

well, i'm poor but i'm not.

i'm 18 (just turned in aug). whne i was 15, i bought (my grandma got a best buy card and let me put it on it) a laptop. it was 1000, plus warrenty, and everything else making it so at 15, i'm already in the hole 2000$. i was working for the past 3 years washing dishes 1 day a week at 6.75 an hour, bringing home around 40$ a week. i just paid that off. i just bought my tib the first week in april, so when i was 17 and making 40$ a week. my bill went from around 700$, to $9000, making 40$ a week. my reason for buying it was because i was driving a van that got 10mpg, and i was losing money putting gas in it to make it to work.

but anyway, i have not had any money untill recently, like the past few weeks, got a job at best buy making 8.25 an hour (starting) and working around 25hrs a week.

now, in aug. when i turned 18, i applied for a credit card. ealy sept i got it in the mail, with a 500$ credit limit. i almost maxed that out with just my school books, but not a week later, my limit was raised to 1200$. maybe 2 weeks later, i had that maxed out, and it still is today (within 10$).

now, i also recently put a 1700$ on the best buy card for a 50" hdtv.

so, turning 18, i am already over $10,000 in the whole, making 8.25 an hour and part time. and that's not including my car insurance (only 50$ a month though ?!) and the studen loans i'm going to have to get out next year. and now with me working at best buy, and the awesome discount i get, i'm not going to having alot of cash left in my check.

i'm not the smartest person. but i do usually manage to get what i want. i mean, under 18 and already have the trust of people for them to trust me with there credit rating, and pretty much hand over $10,000. and still have money to blow on stuff with those bills...i gotta be doing something right.

Ericy321 10-08-2006 09:56 PM

i was that way going to high school and working 35 hours a week managing. then i lost the job and havent had one for way to long now. now its hard to make minimum payments. jsut make sure you pay off what you can when you have the money

and 50" hdtv = very unnecesary at age 18. ok im just jealous

SwiftTiburon 10-08-2006 10:07 PM

Mke, I dont want to sound mean but if you consider yourself poor..its your own fault. Just cause credit card companies give you money doesnt mean they like you. They just want to get more money out of you so you can fall into debt and they can collect tons of money on interest.

If I were you Id stop using those cards and stop getting new ones. Your just turning 18 and already are in debt..your credit rating is going to drop if you cant pay those off soon. If you have a limit of lets say..1000 bucks..going over 500 bucks your credit rating goes down. Companies dont like when you do that.

Im just giving you advice..your young and if you keep it up your credit score will be down the hole.

Im not one to talk but my debts are mainly school bills..my credit card debt is only at 3k.

I hope I didnt sound to mean here, and if I did sorry! smile.gif

zoned019 10-08-2006 10:10 PM

MKE, you screwed up worse than i did .. lol.
$10,000 in debt and only 18? And in college? How do you plan on getting out of debt exactly man? Sure you have good credit because you make the payments, but, eventually...your payment will be nothing but the interest, and you'll always be $10,000 in debt and paying the $50 minimum every month is doing nothing but taking care of the interest. You need to cut up those cards and start working your ass off to pay that off, otherwise, when you graduate, you're going to be in a world of hurt. Take it from the other 80% of americans that are in debt.

majik 10-08-2006 10:15 PM

I'm 23 years old, graduating in December with a Bach. of Business Admin in both Accounting and Information Technology. I'm about $30,000 in debt due to student loans, and as of two weeks from now, will be an ADDITIONAL $180,000 in debt due to my new house. Oh yeah, and I've got a wedding AND a honeymoon happening next April and I'm STILL looking for a job! Eyecrazy.gif

3K IN credit card debt?? DAAAAMN!! What are you shopping for?

SwiftTiburon 10-08-2006 10:45 PM

^Nothing lol. That 3k was for the tib and for food when I didnt have cash.

I didnt buy crap with it believe me. (Though I know you were probably being sarcastic anyway tongue.gif)

MKE 10-08-2006 10:53 PM

edit: i dont think you were being mean or anything, you dont think i didnt have second thoughts after getting the car, and all the other stuff. and also keep in mine i'm 10,000$ in debt, but only 1000$ of that is credit card debt which is going to be paid off before i start paying interest on it. everythign else right now has interest included in the payments, or in best buy's case the payments are high enough to make it so i'm within the 2 year no interest and stuff.

also, the 50" hdtv was dumb, but that was also kind of my graduation present. my new laptop i just got, was free because of best buy's lemon policy, they gave me that much money (1250$, because that's what my old one was before mir's) so i didnt need to buy a new computer so i justified the tv to be my computer.

no, poor i am not i guess, just really broke/dumb with no savings, and...the reason i say i'm poor is because i really have no money. i have no cash (right now i have 40$ for the next 2 weeks). i have nothing saved up. if anythign happens and i need to fix something, i cant. everything of mine is "credit".

yeah, i am pretty much f*cked. i know. and if your watching the for sale forums, i'm still buyin shit.

and i can make the payments right now.

my car is only 150$ a month (5 yr)
my best buy bill is only 50$ a month (right now)
my credit card bill, even at 1200$ (and i never went over, they raised my limit. i know they just want more money, but i'm interest free for the first 6 billing periods, and i know ill have that paid off just because in the next few weeks ill be getting a 700-800$ check from financial aid for school) is only 25$ right now.

my car insurnace is only 50$ a month, because it's in my grandmas name and i did drivers ed.

so a month, i already owe figure 300$ a month (just because i pay more then the min on the credit card.

at best buy, making 8.25 an hour (in 20 days it'l go up to 8.55, and when i get into the geek sqaud after the holidays, that's supposedly a significant pay increas because it's a technical job, but ill do this with 8.25) and working 20 hours a week (again, going to be around 30-35 during the holiday season, but ill do it with 20)

my first check, after taxes i got $7.61 an hour, so ill do this off of that actually.

7.61 X 20 hours= 152.20 a week, so 304.40 a check (bi-weekly), or about 600$ a month.

so, already i'm only getting 50% in my pocket of what i make.

but that's not including school. now, one thing i didnt say in my original post is that right now, financial aid is paing 120% of my shcooling. i get 2700$ a semester, and starting off at nccc (community school) i'm only paying 1700 for tuition, and this semester i only had to get 3 books (50$ english, 100$ c++ programming, and 125$ math book). and like i said, all of my school stuff (not just books) is went on my credit card, but in the next few weeks i will be getting a check for about 700-800$ which is all going on my credit card. so my bill is gonna go down on that too.

where the problem comes in is when i transfer to RIT (so far rit, havent 100% made my decision, since i have some time) i know i'm going to have to get out a student loan, i just dont know for how much, but i know my sister has $60,000 in loans, and she's going to fredonia for teaching (30 of that's when she went to a private school for music) so i'm assuming around 50,000$ in loans, just so i know ill have enough.

now, i'm good right now on all my current bills. and i'm going to school for electrical engineering, so i'm not that worried about being able to pay off my student loans.

so yeah, that's my story. yes, i realize that's perfect if everything stays as is and i have no problems. especially if i have no savings or anything else. and i also know about the credit card. that's why i do only have the one, and honestly mainly right now it's only got my school stuff and gas on it (probably 250-300$ of gas, just because for the past month going back and forth to school and trying to find a new job, i'be been doing ALOT of driving and didnt just get my first check from best buy till the 6th, and dont get another one untill the 20th)

'treezy 10-09-2006 09:49 AM

this thread is disgusting...

but I must admit, I am included. FYI, you are not poor if you cannot afford what you want (i.e. your turbocharger or louie vaton bucket seats.... blah blah, get a job!).

I am poor, but I am happy. That's what counts. I work three jobs (manual labor at two, and my own schedule at the other) at 18, successfully attend the most rigorous flight university in the world full-time as a junior, have a wonderful girlfriend to keep me going, tinker on cars, and find time to fly airplanes inbetween.

If any of you think you have it bad in the debt category.... dont' even get me started. I'm pretty sure this happy streak will end once it hits me but last time I checked it was something like $60,000 in various loans from various lenders with various interest rates and payment schedules. Basically I can say goodbye to about 1/2 of any paycheck I make in the next 20 years! LOL

Alex01tib 10-09-2006 02:58 PM

Patreezy, dont think your the only one in this thread with loans

I didnt even mention my college loans, and trust me, i have loans.

And selina spent 3 years at a private university so i know shes got a little bit of loans out to lol.

Viper966 10-09-2006 03:06 PM

well lets see, i was going to school full time and working full time (50 hours) at CC as a sales mGR, it paid allright but then i quit cuz i just got tired of all the BS. Started doing turbokits and misc projects more, endded up underquoting alot of people for work i did, and ended up almost paying some people to let me do stuff for them (1997 tibby got a great deal on his GT30R kit) and working on swifts car etc, now ive ended upsidedown on alot of stuff that ive finally started working again 9-5 and i have no time to finish projects i started, and to top that off yesterday i learned that the internal wastegate setup that i bought 3 of (@ 150 a pop) for the turbokits im building dont fit and i cant do anything with them, so i have to eat almost 600 bux in total parts and shit on turbokits that i was barely breaking even on after everything, so im eating a bunch of CC debt for that

NBCTibby 10-09-2006 08:17 PM

I'm broke, too. I'm 21. I have a job that I'm happy with because I get to do my two fav things - cook and run my mouth! The pay is ok, but the hours SUCK. like 20 a week. My checks barely cover my $202 loan payment, plus I have a cell to pay for. Also, I'm about $6000 in the hole thanks to paranoia. Thought my big C was making a return so I had some fun CT scans and a couple ultrasounds done, plus lots of wonderful blood work. I can't keep my foot off the accelerator, so now I have to pay my stepdad $300 to cover what he paid my lawyer. Much better than having to pay insurance, though. Also, I'm in school. Comm. Coll. for business now, but I'm aiming for a serious culinary skewl pretty soon after that. Most of this is my own fault. I could get a better job. I could use my cruise control more. I'm just lazy, I guess.

Boy oh boy some peoples intellegence. Student loans sucks, but are serving a purpose, an investment in yourself so to say . A loan for a house is an investment so also not a bad idea. Now putting a $1700 dollar tv on a credit card is the absolute dumbest thing i have ever heard of. You will be able to get that tv for 1100 in 12 months. MKE mommy needs to punch you in the nuts and cut those credit cards up.

ok, the car i needed for school. no, i didnt need this much of one, but i did need something really good on gas and is going to last me through school with no problems. plus, if i'm spending this much on a car, i'm getting something i want.

and the tv total was 1700. the tv was on sale for 1250 from 2300$ because it was the display model. the 4 year in home warrenty w/ 2 bulbes was 400$, because i protect all my investments. and the tv isnt all my debt, like i said it was a graduation present that i'm supposed to pay all of, but she said since i didnt need a laptop (i bought one and paid for it myself over the past 2 years with my old one day a week job, and since i got the warrenty and it fell under best buy's no lemon policy, i just got a brand new one) my g-ma was going to cover some of it (she bought my 2 older sisters both laptops for there graduation present- my oldest one got a 3300$ dell and my other one got a 2200$ toshiba, so she said she didnt have a problem with this)

no i didnt need the tv, but it was that or nothing, which would you have taken?

and i only have 1 damn credit card. that right now has my school stuff/gas and some play on it. that's about 600$ on school shit, around 300$ on gas for the past month, and 300$ in other stuff.

the only reason i posted in this thread f***ing thread (thanks for my new av assholes) is because while i guess i'm not poor, i have no money right now because over the past 3 years, all of it has been going to my bills (car, insurnace, and laptop for first 2). but no, once i start getting steady checks from best buy ill be in excellent shape.

Decco 10-10-2006 08:12 AM

Mike, you only pay $50 a month for car insurance? D:!!!! If I get off my parent's insurance, I have to pay $315 sad.gif

MKE 10-10-2006 08:54 AM

yeah, because the car is in my grandmas name, the insurance is only 150$ every 3 months for full coverage and everything.
