I got a lil bit of a dilemma I was wondering if anyone could help me with.

We just got DSL in our house, and have to network 2 computers up. Only thing is, they are about 80 feet away from each other. Anyone know what the best kind of ethernet cable would be to buy and where to buy it from because that stuff is pretty expensive. Thanks!

if you are ready to spend ~300$ on networking equipment, then go wireless....for 80 feet, specially if it is separate floors you will want to go with MIMO router and MIMO wireless card. Best would be to get Linksys harware. Also, check out the Netgear - they've just released mimo router that is quite inexpensive.

If not, then, u can stop by at the bestbuy - they have Dynex cable 200feet for 79$ i think...unless you are running some bit sensitive network you wouldn't see any difference...especially, since DSL is not the highest speed beoadband.

Sams Club and other stores like that too have full Wireless setups for right around
$100. Everything you need to hook up 2 to 3 PC's.

I have three computers networked... I used a Linksys router and would never use anything else.

I also hardwired everything. I am paranoid that way. I did not want any of my neighbors using my Cable hookup for free.

Redz, you can get routers as cheap as 4.99 and card as cheap as 10.99, but do you want that garbage?

Most of my customers are using Linksys - none of them are complaining.

For 100 it would be some D-Link 58kb router...and D-Link is a nice piece of crap. Good quality netwroking will not be cheap. And then, again, wireless has to be setup. SSID, WEP and all that jazz...

My inhome network is based on the Linksys WRG54T router...but my hosue is not that big..

standart routers will give signal up to 40-50 feet. when MIMO gives range up to 200...

Uhm, no?

I'm talking Linksys.

That's what I've got here. WRT54G Router and their G Gaming adapter for the Xbox.

Well, I went to Circuit City Friday night, and they told me not going wireless would be faster. It's a 1 story house, but there's plenty of walls and everything inbetween the 2 computers. I was gonna go with a wireless router either way, they have it on sale for only about 10 dollars more, and thats Linksys.

Not really sure what to do but I gotta do it like this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest ponder.gif

WHAT linksys router? what model?

Not going wireless is WAY longer.

How old is the house? what kind of walls are inbetween?
