This may sound NOOBISH but why was it sputtering like that. Just because of the heat??

Ill give you my NOOBIEISH answer. I think they were really breaking in the motor. SO it was cold, never ran before, and had fresh internals. I believe it was sputtering b/c it was cold. I know that when ever my dads bike hasnt been ridin for a little while it does that same exact thing. If you give it gas and hold it wil just chill at a low RPM, then after like a minute of that it will start sputtering and the RPMs will spike really fast.

So i think you are right about it being the heat. Its just that it needed to get that hot before everything would run smoothly.

Arctic - You might be right about revving, but i think at first it was just too cold to run smooth.

The sputtering is because the engine isn't really designed to run at low RPM. It's designed to live between 10,000 and 18,000 rpm. So they don't worry too much about the injection system in the "off" rpm. That, and being cold....

Also, they were going from full throttle to no throttle and there was excess fuel in the system igniting in the exhaust adding to the flames and popping.

Notice how fast that engine can go from low RPM to 18,000 RPM? *drool*

Yeah, Toyota might not be winning, but considering they've just started their F1 effort, they are doing better than I expected for a freshman team. Well, at least they are ahead of Cosworth!

yeah, they are ahead. but i think they are doing well for a rookie team because havent they dumped more money into it this year than any other team?
