OK....I can probably help ya out with this, considering I'm a producer at a large recording studio. Plus I have my own studio at home. Ok, anyway...it sounds alot like Apex Twin (game boy music) *lol*. But it's very repetitive. You should mix it up some more, and get rid of the little laser gun effects. I mean, unless that's what you're going for, then keep it. But otherwise, the forground effects like that pretty much take away from the back beat sample and it doesn't flow together. Also, it sounds like your levels are off as well. The forground effects are alot louder than the back beat sample. You want to make sure everything is equal in sound, and you don't want one effect over powering the other. Also, not sure if the program you're using has reverb effects on it, but if it does, then add some reverb and echo effects. If there's no "reverb" on the software, then there should be a "delay" effect. Although a delay can add a similar effect, there is one very important feature that a simple delay software will not produce - the rate of arriving reflections changes over time, whereas the delay can only simulate reflections with a fixed time interval between them. By using either of those effects, your bass will sound a little smoother and it will have a nice crisp edge to it.

That's my professional opinion. But if you like the way it sounds, then keep it and have fun. If you have other questions about making your own music, then check out www.futureproducers.com and go into their message board. You'll learn ALOT about different ways to make your own stuff. Good luck... wink

Your links were working for me, but the site was unavailable at the time...

I was just curious to know, on what pieces of equipment are you creating your own beats? On your computer? If so, I'd love to know where I can pick up a similar program... Thanks alot.

EV... you can use a program called FruityLoops, but I don't know if its that good, I've used it while playing around with making beats... should be downloadable somewhere on this wonderful internet...

I found myself a copy of CAKEWALK last night...
Talk about complicated, it took my about 45 minutes to get the hang of it. I didn't even come close to the potential of it though.
Hopefully my prior piano lessons will pay off in figuring things out...

Sounds just like the music used in the GTA: Vice City trailer.

You mean Aphex Twin....I hope. He is the grand dad of all electronic music. Ambient Works Vol 1 and 2 are called by many the best electronic music ever made. Don't compare him to that.

yummy, Aphex Twins. I had to go for a listen after reading this thread. Next, Autechre.

Too, keep it up. The greats had to start somewhere too.
