Ok...I'm all for doing insane one off custom modifications to a car, but when it comes down to something like this, the owner needs to be shot! IT'S A FREAKING '51 MERC!!!! HOW COULD YOU DO ALL THAT TO THAT PARTICULAR CAR!?!?!?!?!? The classics are PERFECT the way they are once you restore them to show room condition!!!!! eek!
eek!
Oh well. I guess some of you guys wouldn't understand unless you had the love of classics. I love doing custom things on cars and trucks, just not on such a beautiful car like a 51 Mercury. sad.gif

DUDE! Have you ever seen a 51 Merc fully built to show room condition? They're beautiful works of art. That car was ugly to begin with, he just made it better.
What that guy did to his car took alot of work and yes it's very unique and intersting, but there's a fine line you don't cross when you want to build and own a true classic. If some guy came to my shop with a classic, and asked me to do all kinds of stuff to his car, I would seriously turn him away, no matter how much money he had. I just can't see turning something so amazing like a real classic into something like what you see in that auction. Small things like maybe shaving the door handles, or creating a custom grill, or hell, even a chop top at THE MOST, but for the most part...if it were up to me, I would leave it alone and restore it to it's orginal lines and beauty. wink smile.gif

Just kidding. In all honesty, the merc at the moment is hideous, but only because of the mods. Put regular frenched round headlights on it, paint it black or a darker color, get rid of the ridiculous front wheels, and it's not so bad. Oh, and the ubiquitous chevy engine.
The car's not worth $75,000... At the moment it resembles the taxi vehicles out of "The Fifth Element".
