I don't know where to post it so if i put it in the wrong section please move it.

this is the Q & A of my mishap.... LOL

the car currently have 106k + miles, completely stock internals with a compression of 200psi on a cold engine.
the car was idling rich for the past couple of weeks and while under boost at wot it always had a mid 11's AFR with no signs of knock (that i could hear).
the boost was set at around 17psi and it would spike to 20 psi and i let off the gas pedal. still i had a rough tune for up to 25 psi for just in case.... tongue.gif
i currently don't know what kind of power the car was making because i refuse to use my CC to mod my car, much less pay for dyno time. wink1.gif I know its relative of what type of tire you have but i could break them loose on 3rd gear. 006.gif

now, i won't know what happened until Friday when i have time to take a good look. for now here are a couple of pics of the only thing i can see.

well thats the oil pan and oil pan guard... with a giant piece missing...

That hole looks just the right size for a rod bolt to make...

Ouch.

YIKES!! 17-20 PSI?!?! Stock compression?!?! Wow man, thats ballsy. Hope it was worth it while it lasted. I bet it was!!! Well, good thing is, our engines are a dime a dozen and pretty damn cheap to replace. Just saw one on ebay with a make offer and 150 flat rate shipping.

ebay tibby engine

G/L. What are your plans for the car now? I saw you put a GI on your EVO setup.

i just took the oil pan out and the rod of cylinder #4 snapped.

edit:

i thought the pieces on the oil pan was part of the rod but its the piston that shattered.

Lucky as in, you didn't catch an engine bay fire? I guess. As far as the motor, not so much.

yeah! new motor time!

Dang, that was a lot of boost on stock compression. What happened when the piston exploded? Boost spike?

It probably was that the engine under a lot of load. I'm going to pull the cylinder head out and check if the cylinder walls are okay. If so, I will change the pistons and rods.

there are quite a few beta1 engines locally for dirt cheap, ranging from a 1.8 with 100k for $150 to a 2.0 with 5.7k for $450.
