On October 20th will be my one year anniversary of our marriage, and we're taking a long weekend trip to St. Louis. I've only been once, for a weekend NOPI show, and never really saw the city at all. I'm looking for ideas of things to do in the city. We're staying downtown on Washington Avenue, near the Gateway Arch.
We've made a deal... she won't include shopping and I won't include sporting events.
Why St. Louis? Within 4 hours of driving distance, never been there, looking for something new, thought it might be interesting.
Things I've found:
Gateway Arch
Anheuser Busch brewery (largest brewery in the world)
Botanical Gardens and Museums

I found that as well... very helpful site.
Problem: I could give you 80 things to do in Nashville, however, only 10 of them might be worth your time.
I'd like to have some insight from someone in the city, or someone who has been to the city.
The STL Zoo is a definite possibility... as well as perhaps a dinner cruise.
I also have a list of about 50 restaurants, but would like to see personal picks to avoid bad choices

watching them make fudge at the fudge factory in union station is a good way to kill 10 minutes. quite a bit of things to do there actually. many things are within walking distance of union station. the arch, gambling boats (i prefer the admiral) plus other things.
where you are staying you could actually make a good day of the many things that are around your motel, i've stayed there once for a internet party.
if you want to go to the arch and go on top of it it is better to get your tickets for teh next day or show up really early in the morning. usually by 10 am you can't get to the top of that thing cause all the tickets are sold out.

Best thing is the arch (must go to the top) and the museum underneath it. Please don't support the casinos on the water next to it...
Next best is the science museum (my personal favorite). I've been there probably a dozen times or so, terrific place. Not a children's museum at all; it's a really well done science museum, you could probably spend a full day there. There's also a lot of interactive stuff rather than just the exhibits too, be sure to catch as many of those (usually free) as you can.
The zoo is probably the other really good place to go. Lots of things to see, lots of shows and such, really worthwhile!
I lived close to St. Louis and visited there about every month, so I've gotten a pretty good chance to get around, and those are probably the best things to do.

thanks for the tips. The insight on the arch tickets is exactly the feedback I'm looking for... it's like going to Paris and not being able to go on the Eiffel Tower (almost happened to me).
I'll mark the science museum down as a definite possibility. I'd be more into that than my wife, but she'd probably go along with it. Do you know the name of the museum? From what I've read, there are quite a few museums around there.
I'm definitely hitting up the Anheuser Busch brewery tours burp.gif
we're staying at the Renaissance Hotel on Washington Avenue. I have a free night stay, plus I earn as many Marriott Rewards points as possible to plan my next big vacation
