It isn't illegal to OWN a switchblade...it is illegal to carry one. You are allowed to carry small boxcutter knives (may have changed since 9/11 though so no guarantee with that) along the lines of about a 1/4 inch blade that retracts. The only knife I'm aware of that is just straight out illegal to even own is a butterfly knife.Which if you don't know what that is, it's a blade contained inside two handles that can be clasped together at the bottom, when you release the clasp and flick your wrist (if you know how to do it) the handles seperate and the blade comes out with the handle now in your hand.
