We had a Japanese exchange student staying with us for a while. She used to cover he mouth when she ate because apparently it considered rude to watch people eat and, due to a growing number of 2 income homes in Japan, kids don't get a chance to eat with their parents often so there no mealtime interaction. Call it what you will
I don't like watching people eat either. Then again most Americans eat like hogs at the trough.
