Jaws is the guy for those questions... he messes around with that stuff. I'm pretty sure he put the Beta II head on a Beta I...
Either way, what I like about the Beta II is it seems a lot less finicky about little things. Compare an AEM Beta II dyno to a Beta I. That annoying flat spot is gone. Its probably a great engine that is hated on because its in a fat little 2800 pound car.

I've got 196,000 km (=122,000 miles) on my car.
When I bought it (165,000 km = 103,000 miles) engine took oil, 1L for 2000 km (1250 miles).
So I changed piston rings and all gaskets (at 175,000 km = 109,000 miles).
