I hit 200,000km !
I just hit 200,000km ( 124,280 miles)
Wow!, Since I bought her used on July 15th 2003, I have put in
20,590km ( 12,794.6miles -not bad for a year and eight monthswink1.gif)
I have been debating on what I should do,...
- Should I "try" and find a newer engine on say, Ebay, or junkyards?
- Does Hyundai sell whole engines for this type of replacment?
I would actually like to buy a Brand new 2.0L for my 1.8L instead of trying to find a lower mileage engine.

Why confused.gif Is your engine worn out, or are you just trying to be prepared for when it dies confused.gif Mine has 192000km on it and ie still going strong, so just b/c you've reached 200000 doesn't automatically mean your engine is going to die.

In that case, get an engine from a wrecker then strip and rebuild it yourself as a project. That way you will learn a lot as you go and you will be proud in the knowledge that you did it yourself.

Anything with 100,000+ miles is going to be in worse condition then a relatively fresh one, no matter how well you take care of it. I would definately look into an under 40k replacement if you can find one. Its probably going to start getting hard to find good low mileage replacements now that the cars are from 4-8 years old. Beta IIs seem tempting.
Whole engines from the manufacturer cost out the ass... especially when the engine is not being built anymore for other cars.

I hear ya, but I now live in an apartment building and cannot do this 02.gif
I have seen some Elantra engines on Ebay, but how can I be sure that if I buy it, and put it in, ...will it actually work?
I assumed buying one from Hyundai would be hard on the wallet.
My engine at 200,000km is still really great!, a little valve noise(or lifters?) but it is doing realy good.
I'm just looking into the future, and a possile F/I future smile.gif

well... correct me if I am wrong.. but isn't the short block the same on the 2.0 beta 1 and beta 2? As far as I know, only the head is different between the two models. It might also be possible to run the beta2 head (as long as it does not have the funky cam advancement feature) with our intake and fuelinjection.
