I DITCHED HYUNDAI!!for honda....
I guess common sense doesn't apply to this. An AUTOMATIC VS A 5 SPEED
190HP VS 140HP
Did someone hit you with the stupid stick? Why do you think automatics are called autotragics in the first place. rolleyes.gif Manuals are for speed. Autotragics are for convience. Oh, I hate to burst your bubble anymore, Variable Val Timing is in most cars. Honda just marketed it to death. And it obviously found its targeted market. wink No it is not a power enhancement, it is just fuel managment plain and simple Vtech is nothing special. Oh and Santa Clause doesn't exist either. sad.gif Oh, as for reliability check this out
http://integra.vtec.net/engine/repairs.html
But in the end to each is own, congrads on going from unique, diffrent and special to plain, ordinary and a dime a dozen rolleyes.gif

I also crossed over into an Pearlized White Acura RSX Type-S. (flame all you want, it's a pretty nice car). Still have to get used to the 6-speed. The i-Vtec kick is also pretty kewl. Corners like a.......lets just say, it sticks to the ground VERY nicely.

Huh?!?! I think you got smacked on the rebound there Jaws. Automatics don't miss shifts and provide better reaction times in 1/4 mile racing. They can easily be beefed up and work better than a manual tranny.Did someone hit you with the stupid stick? Why do you think automatics are called autotragics in the first place. Now, if you wanna go real racing and not that boring repetitive acceleration test, but rathre wanna really test your car and your driving ability, then yes a manual is a better choice for control of the engine RPM.
Yeah, in the drag racing scene, autos have their place... Pre-launch boost, plus no re-spool time for shifts are big bonuses when you're dealing with a turbo...
For non-turbo applications, the advantages of being able to build RPM, and having less slip when shifting becomes an advantage, not to mention the more efficient transfer of energy to the driving wheels. You've got to be able to shift, and if you miss, you look bad... I still like standards, though. smile.gif
Scourge: under $15k for a Supra TT? Oh man! Probably RHD, though. Oh well.
On the topic at hand...
If I were looking for performance, I've said before, and I'll say again: I would not choose Hyundai. And for EXACTLY the same reasons, I wouldn't choose Honda/Acura, either. Why? Because I don't like front wheel drive for performance. The off-the-line weight transfer is all working against you with FWD, and torque steer just plain bugs me. So, when it comes to performance, I'll take RWD, or possibly AWD.
So would I "trade up" from a Hyundai to a Civic? I can't see what that would gain me. So no. Not unless the Honda was considerably cheaper than the Hyundai -- which when you compare feature for feature, just isn't the case.

Yeah, they are all RHD models here in Japan. MarkIV non-turbo models can easily be had for $6000-$7000USD.Scourge: under $15k for a Supra TT? Oh man! Probably RHD, though. Oh well.

I tend to agree with you but only for drag racing. If you are into real racing, some FWD platforms can do exceptionally well considering they are FWD. The Integras in SPEEDVISION's CUP did pretty well against BMW. However, I too would choose RWD/AWD over FWD. Sure, the Integras do pretty good but other cars can do better. (for performance, the only FWD car I would really consider is the Lotus ElanII. For people who know, this car is beyond exceptional even though its FWD. Price is what killed it against the Miata).
