Default help with car's identity....

I have a '98 tiburon and I was wondering what exactly is the difference between an FX and a base model? I've heard people say it's the foglights and spoiler and rims ... and I have all that but doesn't it also have the moonroof and leather seats? I bought mine with the marking on the back removed so I'm not sure. Also, my vin has the same letters as an "fx" I saw on ebay so any help would be appreciated...

i think it's not an fx unless it has the badge (yes, someone could remove it). i think all of the tibs with fx-like accessories or luxuries have those as add-ons, not as fx equipment. who know's. dunno i could swear my gf's tib is an fx, but it doesn't have the badge. it's a 2.0 with sunroof, 4-wheel disc brakes, mudflaps, etc... dunno

for a 98, it should be easy.

If she has the J2 block (2.0L). 1.8L block will say "RD".(look to drivers side of block, to the left of the dipstick, behind exhaust manifold) If she has 4 wheel disc brakes. Base models in 98 got drums.

It is possible that someone swapped in a 2.0L block, and installed rear disc's (if she bought it used). In that case, a call to her insurance company will clear it up. The VIN should state if it is an "FX" or "base" model.
