One of the best "garage soaps" is to equal up dish soap and vegetable oil. Rub it in dry, and rinse. Repeat if necessary. It's cheaper than the other stuff, and usually already in the house.

Fast Orange.

The trick is to put it on dry (as mentioned by bdiggy). It gets into your skin and pulls the oil/moisture out, pulling the grease out. When I worked for a print shop, we'd have to use the stuff multiple times a day to get ink off our hands. If you get your hands wet first, it won't work for crap.
