Future Plans and a Quick question
Hey... well, im realizing that i need a few more horses now... especially since i got it handed to me last night by a dodge neon r/t. I am planning on buying a new header (hopefully off ebay because i dont have any money right now) and doing something with my exhaust. I have one quick question about my exhaust setup though... I cannot afford a full cat back exhaust so i am thinking of just putting a new muffler on there. I really like the way the cars sound on the movies like the fast and the furious and i want a sound kind of like those... either that sound or kind of a mid to deep growl coming from the exhaust... can someone help me out with this... i dont want to sound like a weedwhacker on crack!
It will be nearly worthless to get a header, then keep the stock diameter pipe all the way back to a larger diameter muffler. You need a header, cat, full exhaust. It isn't that expensive, just save up and get it all at once and have it installed or do it yourself all at once. I also suggest getting a perforated core glasspack.
well the header is guaranteed here soon... probably within the next couple of months... a cat back exhaust may come later.. but right now i cannot afford it at all... so like a dynomax muffler or borla wouldnt do anything for me?

Why don't you just get a local exhaust shop to MFR you one real quick? It'll be WAY cheaper than a full catback anyways.

It's easy. Go talk to him, tell him you are getting headers and want a custom exhaust done, just piping all the way back. They get some piping the diameter you want, bend it at the right places, weld a bung and some flanges on, bam, you have a cheap exhaust. You'll get some good gains and you can upgrade to a MBRP or whatever else Stainless one later.
If you get the muffler by itself, you'll hardly get any power at all but it will make a difference in sound depending on the muffler. You're better off getting the whole thing done. Remember, a muffler and cat back exhaust does not make power, it simply allows the engine to breath easier freeing up power that already exists.
