ok, i'm hanging out on this forum more and more and more because there just arent any patients for me to do. so anyway, i'm reading posts and i just keep thinking of the times that i totally screwed up because i'm a dumba$$, lol. here's a story i wanna share.

I bought r*side 4-1 header of some dude in hp.com and i was eagerly, i mean, eagerly waiting for these to come in. they get to me and i open the box and the header is in two pieces. first of all, NOT what i expected. i expected the extractors to be longer and the collector waaaay furthur back. at least from the pictures i was shown, that's what it looked like. so, aside from the initial disappointment, i'm pretty excited.
the next day i get back from work, call one of my buddies to help me out and we get to work. something came up and my buddy had to leave. so i'm there all by myself in my apartment parking lot with my car up and me tinkering down there trying to get the stock header off. well, the power steering pump was in the way and i couldnt get it off! i remember thinking, "wth? ...how do i take . . this . . . thing . . . . crap."
hahahaha
so i ended going to bed and riding my bike to work the next morning. i yell at my friend to help me and so after we get off work, we get back to taking the header off and putting the new header on. well, we finally got it back on and everything bolted up. man, it looked soooo good. then my friend looks under the car and says, "um...dude? you need to look at this..."
so i get down under the car and i'm like, "WTF?" there was a gap between the flange on the flex pipe and my stock pipe of at least six inches!!
LOL. i was sooo angry, hahaha
the next day, i rode my bike to work, again (being laughed at by all my friends who passed me going to work). thank GOD it was a friday so i'd be able to go to the muffler shop on saturday.
well, as luck would have it, i realized i didnt have ANY money to pay for a custom exhaust. payday was on monday. so i had to wait..over the weekend...without a car...that i had to drive to the market in order to not starve to death over the weekend and i was so scared of being pulled over. i had to make up some lame excuse to my boss in order for them to let me have the half day off on monday so i could get my exhaust on.
it was SOOOO embarassing driving my car to the muffler shop. man...people were opening their front door, looking out and staring at me because the car was so loud. lol

so since you guys had a little laugh at my expense. own up! what's some of your embarrassing moments?

i got one.

i had just installed my intake, and i ended up having to cut the couplers a little bit to get everything to fit. the next day i go to a bonfire party have a few beers. im having a hell of a time, there are tons of girls, and im sitting there talking to like 3 hot ones all night. they are all being super flirty, and im starting to get cocky as all hell. the other two end up leaving, got ones number and im sitting there talking to one of them. i walk her back to her car, nothing happens(shes my neighbor and ive known here since 2nd grade...kinda awkward).

so im feeling pretty good about the night, i get into the tib kinda pumped. still sorta buzzed(dont drink and drive. i lived about 5 minutes away and probably wouldnt have blew over the limit but its still was a dumb thing to do). im backing out of the little parking area and its pretty bumpy. i get to the entrance of the road and kinda rev and my car starts f***ing shaking like crazy. i start frieking out. i drive home the whole way and just about 0 throttle and i make it home. i go to bed going over in my mind what the problem could be. i go to work the next day at 6. pop my hood in the parking lot, and see one of the couplers came off slightly and was letting unregistered air in.

Here's a good one...

I took off my dash to paint everything, and once everything was painted, dried and reinstalled, I decided to check all accessories that I connected everything and didn't miss anything. Well I turn on the battery, I try the lights, dimmers, etc, all good. I get to the A/C controls...the air is only coming out of the defroster...I set it on feet, comes out of the defroster...no matter what I set it on, it would only come out of the defroster. At this point I'm just plain raging angry, and I take everything back off...reinstall again, try everything, same problem...So i'm online checking everything imaginable for what the problem could be...wind up checking all the vaccuum hoses, no problems there...finally, I realize to myself, wait a second...vaccuum hoses...the pressure hose is in the IM...why would the vaccuum hose be pressurized if i just disconnected/reconnected the hoses and no air went into the IM...basically, all i had to do was actually start the car, not just turn the battery on...

I installed my exhaust while it was raining. Then we started it up,and I was leaving my brother's house. I stomped on the gas to hear the new exhaust, and apparently shotgunned a crapload of water right out of the muffler. Apparently it had collected there while it was sitting in the grass during the rain. Not really stupidity..but amusing to me.

I don't know if this is funny or not, but I got a story. Around 7 years ago, I had a crate motor installed in my 92' B4C Z28. I cuoldn't get the thing to stay on for more then a few seconds. I checked everything and couldn't figure it out. I was in college at the time and a senior so I was bussy doing other things. I ended up getting rides to school for a couple of months. Then one day, I messed with the fuel pressure regulator and bingo, the car came on! Boy did I feel stupid, the problem was as simple as turning a screw, it turned out that the fuel pressure was set wrong. I've been messing with cars (and one truck) for 16years and I'm lucky this is the only mistake I've made so far.

oh boy we have plenty...

Once... me and random were installing a head in my car (maybe his, dont remember) anyways.. while random is installing the cams, hes rambling about how people break cams and how retarded they must be.
"people have to be really stupid to break a cam"
Within 5 secs.... SNAP
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another time...
Random was removing the supercharger from the Elantra Alpine used for R&D, i was doing an engine swap on my car (blown CNK piston engine). Now we are doing this on a saturday night, and doing an all nighter trying to get both cars done in time.

Well... He finished removing the supercharger and started helping me out.

It was about 5am... we were both tired. Well.. I thought he set the engine timing, he thought that i set it..

I go and start the car and well.... lets just say i have 16 perfectly bent valves
lol

Another time..

This was the ross piston engine.
I turned over the engine to a friend of mine who was only 20, but had done A LOT of work on engines before, very knowledgeable guy. Anyways,... i picked it up.

So once i receive the engine i go ahead and drive home with it... i start stripping my car of the hybrid beta engine.
Keep in mind i hate doing car work alone.. one of the reasons i really dont do much to my car now these days. Well this time one of my friends who knows very little about cars was helping me out.
So i assigned him to install the oil pan. He goes and cleans it off and lets it sit in the LA sun for about half an hour. I then put the RTV on it and hand it back to him and tell him to go ahead and install it.
I never checked the underside of the block BIG MISTAKE
Turns out the oil pick up tube was not installed..

Car ran fine until it siezed at the end of the block..
lol
owned.gif

Another time... well chris (blacktibs, the guy that owns flyryde and you trust with your money) first time playing with his tiburon...
He had a revision A 97 tiburon. He had bought an AEM intake. Of course it did not fit because of the canister.
So instead of relocating it..
Blacktibs decided to switch the whole ecu and wiring harnesses. He upgraded his car from a 97 to a 2001.
Since he had all access to a 2001, he decided to take the engine and manual transmission.
At this time, i dont think blacktibs knew the difference between his ac condensor and his alternator.
lol
So he starts taking apart his car.... and well... he didnt know what to do.
2-3 days into his project
"dude, can you come out here to help me"
LMAO!
I drove for 3-4 days all the way to upland from LAX (1-2 hour drive in traffic). Random drove out there a couple of times as well.

Wow i have so many.. .lets see...

OH, not so long ago when my engine was at the machine shop. I was outside talking to a chevy guy and we start talking about the SI. I claim its very reliable and smooth and a nice daily driver (although driving without the vtec sux yo) and well.. we finally end the conversation. He stays outside and watches me drive away only to see me pop a tire 4 business down.
lol

LAst one.
Back when i was shooting nitrous,....
There was a dyno day that was being organized by a bunch of big block guys.
So i start driving over there (it was a bit east of sandiego 2hr+ drive for me). I noticed i got a check engine light on the way over there...
So once i get there, i start switching out the spark plugs and installing plugs 2 steps colder. I was going to shoot a 100 shot that time. I check the car and i notice the air temp sensor was disconnected...
So i go ahead and plug it back in and figure thats why i had the CEL.
So i reset the ECU, and i get ready to dyno.

The car is rolled up to the dyno and i start getting the weird looks from people. Not only am i the only import there,..... i have a hyundai. So the guy starts it, and ask if i want a run without nitrous (seeing as how we dyno like 110-120 stock, i saved myself the embarrasement and said NO, ALL NITROUS)
So he gets to third gear and lets her rip
Everyone is unimpressed until he floors it. The car almost jumped out of the dam dyno. The car shot all the way to about 240whp. Then it happened....
We hear and see an explosion and see my MAF bounce of the bottom of the hood of the car...
DOH!
I look and im curious WTF could have happened... I figure i just had some puddling in the manifold...
Doing it again but spraying at 4K instead of 3K could have solved the problem and avoided the puddling.
So i connect everything back on. i reset the map...
Then i started thinking...
Its not worth it.

After that i was the most popular guy there. I started talking to guys about stories and such..
Two of them wanted me to sell my car and buy a stang so i can be in there crew.
It was a nice way to end things.

Once my car was off the dyno and i started it the SECOND time, the CEL went back on..
When i got home (running in limp mode for 2 hours) i found out my MAF was bad. I am assuming it was the nitrous backfire... but ill never know. I ran a 100 before on the streets with no problem,.... so it may have been the maf was slightly damaged.

Oh well

I have more, ill post some more later. Im sure random will have his share,...

Well I dont have any that good^^^

But I do have a couple. First I installed a CAI and the coupler that goes to the MAF sensor I didnt have a clamp for, So I was like "Ohwell its tight enough itll stay on there" WRONG about 2 days I here boom clank and feel my car jump up a little bit. So I stop knowing what happend and about 20 ft. behind my car is a mangled intake.

I had a blown front blinker bulb, and I had a pack of two rear blinkers from were I had one go out before, so I had a spare. I thought that the front would be the same as the back but as Im driving out of my house my buddie behind me starts blowing his horn and flashing his lights. I was like WTF? so I pulled over and hes like "Hey check out your blinkers". I look and my blinkers are going haywire. The passenger one is on and the driver one is flashing like crazy and in the front there doing the oppisite the driver is on and the passenger is flashing like crazy. We were saying WTF and laughing histarically. So then it hit me right in the middle of Hardees parking light I pop out my turn signal and rip out the bulb and TADAA it stops. It seems as you cant use the rear bulbs for the front of your car.

Heres one but its not about me. I worked at an Auto Zone a while back and we had a guy come in with a brand new 2005 PT Cruiser. He asked for a PCV valve. So I looked it up and went and got one for him. Just making conversation I said "I take it your PCV valve went out" He said "No I dropped it down in the head." I said "Excuse me." He said "yeah it fell down in there while we were doing some work on it". I said "did you get it out"? "No It will melt in there its just plastic." But really a PCV is plastic and metal. So I just let him leave asstonished that someone could be so obliviouse.

Okay last one.

Also another day at Auto Zone we had this strange character come in and said "I need to know why my car is over heating". So I said "alright", Walked out side and noticed that his resivore tank is empty. "hmmm" so I opend the radiator and no steam no sounds nothing. Its BONE DRY!!! "There is your problem" "Whats that" I said "You dont have any fluid in your radiator" with a puzzled ass look on his face "fluid what do you mean fluid". So I just planly walked inside and got a gallon of antifreeze. I walked to his car and pured it in. "Start it" so the guy walks around, starts the car and says "WOW thats all you mean I had to do was put fluid in there". "I cant believe thats what my problem was". He was just asstonished that radiator fluid keeps his engine cool. So I walked inside and told the guys what I just found out and we all were rolling in the floor laughing our ass's off.
