I think the 1st cop was protecting his partner, it seemed the 2nd cop was in fight or flight mode, his training kicked in, and he backed up to not get hit and fired a few rounds. If you airchair it and hit play over and over, sure it seems a bit much, but in the heat of the moment, I think they reacted as trained. But again, any American with a gun is free to shoot to kill when being actively threatened after warning them multiple times to stop coming at them and even using mace to try to get them to stop, and stil having them attempt to swing at you/kill you with a massive weapon like that. I am at a loss how anyone thinks this is excessive....

exactly what I was going to say.

The guy totally acted like he was going to take a swing at the officer. Looking at it on video, it looks like he was faking it - but in the moment, if you're the police officer, you'd BETTER be protecting your partner!! If not,

We also have NO context as to why the officers were there. They were standing outside with their guns drawn, with a K-9, ready to protect themselves and subdue the guy. They wouldn't just randomly show up to eat lunch and post up against the wall like that.

Bullshit. The guy's first reaction probably would have been to swing it into the side of the dog, killing the dog. The K-9 is considered a police officer as well.

As I stated, the guy acted as if he was going to take a swing at the officer. His partner did what was necessary to protect him. You don't wait to see if he's doing a pump fake.

if you have an excuse to shoot once, you have an excuse to empty your clip.

This is the way they treat it, but it shouldn't be the case. A police dog is a dog, a tool. One that should be used when appropriate, and saving someone's life (even if they're an asshat that may not deserve it) should be worth more than endangering any dog.

^this. The second guy shooting so much later could have just been a delayed reaction. If so, good thing the first guy shot when he did b/c the second guy would have been creamed by the time he started shooting.
