I'm using it for the 'boiler' part of the HHO generator. I'll have electric leads hooked up to it to charge it, then obviously that reacts with the water. All that will probably be housed in a PVC or similar tank.

Aluminium reacts with water to form aluminium hydoxide and free ions of aluminium.

2AL(s)+6H20(aq)-->2AL(OH)3(s) + H2(g)

Most aluminium comes coated as stated earlier, but raw aluminium forms a layer of oxide on the surface which reduces the reaction with water. A weak acid can remove that layer and cause the aluminium to react violently with water.

So in answer to your question, do NOT use aluminium if the material is to be constantly submerged in water

LOLOLOLOL there is no DTN here to refute your equation..

^^^^ Hahahah lmao.gif
We might be able to finally have a civilized, HELPFUL thread with equations without that idiot coming in telling people they're wrong when he has no understanding of science whatsoever.
I do physics, not chem, so that equation means nothing to me, lol.

I would definitely use stainless. Aluminum will corrode, unless you can find some sort of special coating or something. But that sounds like a pain, just use stainless.

i believe aluminum cans have an anodized coating (or something similar)-... anodized aluminum will not have the same reaction to water (used alot for the "scaffolding" part on fishing boats).

BUT, it may not have the same grounding capabilites-...

i remember trying to cut anodized aluminum w/ a plasma cutter (the esab salesman was trying to get the co. to buy one) and we were having alot of trouble creating the arc-... the sales guy was freaking out-...then i realized it was a piece of anodized aluminum.
