I've been coming up with a design for an HHO generator (HHO discussion) and was wondering about the material used. Most places I've seen use stainless steel, but I was considering using aluminum. However, will this corrode quickly? Aluminum is cheaper and conducts electricity much better, but if it corrodes, then it's not what I want...
Any of you know if this would work, or should I just stay with stainless?

well think of it this way, Coca Cola is one of the most corrosive things on earth that we can drink. It can dissolve a nail and take rust off chrome. They store that in aluminum cans so ya i would say your good to go with aluminum.
yes RAW aluminum will oxidize-...
oxidized aluminum is brown to tan in color w/ a rainbowish tint.
if it is able to allow the aluminum to breath it will not oxidize-...
we get aluminum in all the time at work and in the bundle it looks fine but you can tell where the water was able sit between touching parts.
hope this helps

That's what I was afraid of, half of you say use aluminum, then one or two say not... So which is it? Obviously this will be in water and reacting all the time, so will that make it corrode?
Stainless is about $30 more expensive, is it worth just using that and not having to worry about it?
More feedback!

definitely SS. all equipment that is made for the food industry is made out of SS and its subject to water all the time. true you are not making pizzas or anything like that but its the nickel in stainless steel that takes the corrosion out of the subject.
