I'm curious how many people paid vs. received a refund... and what your effective tax rate was.

The polls will be confidential, but feel free to post your results and the state you live in.

I worked in Indiana but live in Illinois. Got $471 back from Indiana but had to pay Illinois $401 back. They use to have an agreement if you filed in one state you didn't have to pay in the other but there's bad blood between the two states now.

We all paid. Corporations pass taxes on to consumers.

Yes, we all paid. I didn't think I had to clarify whether you had paid less or more than your government obligation throughout the year resulting in a refund or balance due from our federal government.

I had to pay a little, but not nearly as bad as anticipated. I won a contest where I received untaxed earnings, so I was anticipating the tax burden and took proper steps to maximize my deductions/credits throughout the year. All-in-all, not bad. $612 owed with 11.08% effective tax rate (no state income tax)
