If you have your original Operating System CD and Key, then you can just shove that in the drive and it should auto boot to a menu with instructions.
Just follow them.

Otherwise, if you have a manufactured PC, like DELL or HP, then you most likely have a Recovery Partition, which saves an image of factory settings.

In order to access this recovery feature, you must reboot the machine and upon boot right after it Posts you must press a key depending on the manufacturer.
It is probably displayed as 'Advanced Boot Menu'. If you have an HP, then it is F11. Dells with XP are control+f11, and with Vista is F3.

Otherwise, you would have to repurchase a copy of Windows.

Are you getting anything that takes you to a different website that says try this ant-virus software? If it's close to the same thing I had, it was a b**** to get around.

safe mode with networking, plus malwarebytes.

if you have no reason to cleanup the current install, a reinstall is the best solution.

A simple way that works for many viruses (though not all):

Boot into safe mode (press F8 right before windows starts booting, and select safe mode)

Start->Run, "type msconfig" go to startup tab, disable anything with a weird name or anything you don't recognize. you can search the internet for stuff you're not sure about. Don't worry, you won't f*** up anything just by disabling any of that and you can easily select it back

^^I often do the same thing but usually do it though spy-bot since it consolidates all startup locations into one spot and gives you brief descriptions of each one. Still need to get rid of the virus though. That method leaves the virus/registry entry's/brower hijacks/etc in tact. but it would be a bandaid to get malwarebytes/spybot installed and running.

Tibfreak...yes!

anyttime i try to access something like help and support, this window pops up.. Application cannot be executed, the file helpctr. is infected. do you want to activate your antivirus software now?
that same message pops up for other things as well. it just changes what it says is infected. I can not access "add or remove programs" I cant access the cd drive, basically i am about to burn this POS
when i try safe mode this is what it says....
we apologize for inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. a recent hardware or software change might have c aused this..

Have you tried a system restore ?
From a point of a week ago or so. (before the infection)
and then run every kind of antimalware/virus you can find

goodluck

Jeasus people. Don't restore or format. It's simple.

What's popping up?

If it's ••••••• search for ••••••• remover on google. I'd be more detailed but I'm on my phone and Internet is down. Just search for the remover tool for the offending advertisement and follow directions.

Viruses run rampant on windows. Make the smart switch to Linux. It's really impossible for a virus to run rampant on Linux because of the various levels of security. I understand that people can't leave windows behind so you can run wine or run windows in a virtual machine for desired tasks
