AWD to me is a minimal improvement over RWD since the vehicles that have them are pricey to modify. The drivetrains aren't exactly bulletproof, and the motors are difficult to get in the 500hp category. I know that's a lot of power on this board, but it's nothing in the EVO/Subie/domestic world. And do they REALLY look like sportscars, or a modified family car?
Besides, he said he's not looking for a payment. $4k vs. $15-20k.

The 30a transmission in the Z31 is the same one in the Z32's with a modified bellhousing. It's capable of handling 700whp before needing upgrades. Can any other import say that? Platform is everything. And not needing to modify a transmission for your power goals will save you thousands! Then there's the clutch and shifter directly on the tranny.

I don't understand your comment about the VG not being a great achievment. It was, and still is. From 84 to I think 87, it was the highest horsepower import, then again when the VG30DETT came out. It's won so many awards and dominated so many races that no one could touch it. The internals can take upwards of 450-500whp before needing a piston swap.

So, it seems that a 300 is looking good (even though there are more votes for a Tib). I'm a little apprehensive about getting into one though because I don't know that much about them...

As far as four doors and family cars... I don't need that. We have an SUV for haulin the kid and puppies around in. This will strictly be my toy for driving to work and cruisin around town. Not a lot of miles gonna be put on this thing.

I've also looked at an Integra but I can't see myself in one of those. There is also a couple of Jettas layin around that don't look bad at all.
How are 3000 GTs?

I definitely love the RD2 tibs, but I'd have to side with a 300zx. They are RWD and have tons of room for modification. They are not that expensive.

Back when I was getting the Tiburon I had the chance to get a twin turbo 300zx for 6k. There weren't any problems with it except needs one of the turbos to be rebuilt. The only reason I couldn't get it was because my parents don't want me getting a sports car. lol.

I would also suggest try and stay closer to the years 94-96. These are the range where the cars are cheap and not that worn out. The one I was looking at was a '90. If you want to spend a lot of

The 3000gts/stealths are pretty nice. The VR-4s and Stealth R/Ts are nice twin turbo v6 engines. Stock near 300hp with so much room for more. I would still take a 300z over them though. A nice RB26 swap later would pull some nice numbers.

Also look into a 240Z......not 240sx. The 240Z has a super light body and is a monster in autocross. Not to mention it's the best looking Z of all. wink1.gif

There are kits for dropping V8's in them.

Z's have a huge following and even a magazine: Z-Sport. Tons of aftermarket parts, and cool owners. It's not a fad that's going to fade over time like other cars. Once you buy the car, you won't get tired of it.

Those are also a good cheap project. I'd put it in the same performance category as the Z, although I like the looks of the Z better. But it definately has a solid foundation. The first mod to do to the 7M-GTE however would be ARP head studs. Once you plane the head PERFECT, and get it torqued down right, you can get quite a bit of power out of it. If you don't, you'll blow the HG right away.
