Do a little bit of both Joshawa. I was the MC at my best friends wedding and all I did really was say what needed to be said, and went with the flow. I didn't want to do a speech cause there were already 6 speeches scheduled, and having more before getting to the dancing, bouquet throwing, garder belt, and all that just wasn't my idea of fun. I shared my story and that when I could, most at the wedding knew who I was though so that was a little different.
Take some points, or ideas with you when you go up. Just in case you lose yourself you'll have something to fall back on. Then just go with it. People really don't want to sit there and hear you pour your heart out for 4 minutes. Let the Bride and Groom do that. Just say what you think you need to say, and get the hell outta there. If you have a good story about them that you can tie into love, or happiness, or anything relationship wise, share it. Just don't pick that story that everyone has heard. THey picked you as the best man because you should know both of them well enough to bless their marriage.
When all is said and done, have a decent toast, nothing that is said ALL THE TIME, but something that makes sense when you really think about it. It could be long or short really doesn't matter, but the best man's toast (IMHO) is the most important thing. Put a ton of thought into that.

I've literally known Jason all my life, while some of you have only met him today. Although there may be a difference in how long we've known him, it is easy to see how handsome, intelligent, and charming he.....oops *flip over index card* wrong wedding...sorry.
I like that! Would be funny.
