How so?
How so?
believers would say that what he is saying is heresy.
i know that if he said that in my physical presence, i would have some words with him about what is polite to say in public and not.

I thought so.
Unforutnately though, freedom of speech is a curse sometimes.
We have had religion threads before, and they tend to get ugly.
Myself? I belive that the bible and all of the info in it was a nice way to bring about some order of the chaos of the dark ages.
Nice story, but fiction none the less.
You call it heresay, I call it common sence.
I am a recovering Mormon, and you know what? Every religion I've ever seen perverts the bible, Koran, Talmud`, whatever, to what they want it to say. I could start my own religion if I wanted, who's to say I'm wrong?
Live your life, do good, and if there is an afterlife, you'll be allright.
This should cause a huge eruption of b****ing right about now.
But anyways, the way I see it, more harm has come in the name of organized religion than good ever has. Ever.
I respect your right to belive in whatever you want to belive, if Big Bird is your god, then halleluja to Big Bird.
But I also demand that my rights to belive what I belive in, or DON'T belive in, to be respected.

Freedom of speech may be a cusre. Depends how you use it.
I say, rather than knowingly slam someones failth. If you find it a joke then fine, but some of your comments are rather insulting to those who do beleive.
Christianity is not a Religion its a way of life, beleif that Jesus is the son of God. its about Faith.
Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1 NIV).
Cabbalah is a religion.

No, it's a religion, you make it into a way of life.
To me, religion is for the weak minded.
Does that hurt folks feelings?
It might.
But on the other hand, them constantly pushing their beliefs and bible beating me all the time doesn't help matters at all either. What about my beliefs?
I'd like to know what I said that was insulting.
Almost every war ever fought was based on religion.
The catholic church has what, about 4 billion dollars in damages right now because of all the child molesting? But at the same time, they won't change the rules to let the Priests or whatever they are called these days get married?
Equality to all, unless you are gay? Or way or the highway? Sorry, but every religion I've seen either is derogatory to women, gays, folks NOT of the same faith, or what have you.
Look at the Mormons. The ONLY reason they stopped the practice of polygamy was it was a REQUIREMENT to become a state. That's it. Most of their beliefs are way out there.
SHiz, I should start my own religion.

I belive there COULD be a higher power, but I do belive that if there is one out there, he doesn't care if you go to a church, and it doesn't put us here to praise it all the damned time. We are put here to see how good we live our life. If we need guidance we ask for it. Other than that, organized religion has turned into a farce of piety, wanting your money, and giving you pretty much nothing in return.

I'm "somewhat" Catholic and this was said by you in the same post above. mad.gif
Religion is a very personal thing. To me, I think that yes - there is a higher power. But I also think that no human alive is sure of exactly what that power is, which is where faith comes in.
Some have faith in there being One supreme God; others put faith in many Gods. I, and no other human, has the right to tell another person that their faith is not correct, or that they are wrong for thinking what they do. The truth is, no one has the right to say what religion is right, and which is not. That is for God alone to determine.
---- Long, slightly off-topic post below - read only if very interested! lol ---------
I've posted before about the things necessary to create life and how integrated so many seemingly unrelated things really are, and how they are needed to keep us alive. So I won't post about that again.
But here is something different. Have you ever though about life being destroyed? I think you should - especially since life has been completely wiped from this planet 5 times already.
Galaxies are composed of all kinds of objects: suns, planets, asteroids, etc. At the center of a galaxy where gravity is the strongest, these objects are much closer together (more dense) than the objects further from center toward the outside where it is less dense with objects.
Large objects (planets, moons, etc) at a similar distance to the center of the galaxy as ours get hit with life-ending impacts at a certain frequency. They statistically happen every so often. At our distance, the frequency is about every 20million years, and this has been histroically consistent. So about every 20 mill. years, an object (Earth, for example) will get hit by a life-ending impact of some kind.
The last time we were hit was 65 million years ago. Doesn't seem like such an interesting fact - but once you consider Earth should have been hit 3 times by now, you realize just how lucky we have been. And to call it luck is a stretch. The odds are stacked quite tall against us, yet life has been able to survive and evolve an incredibly long time. We should not be that lucky - but for some reason, we have been.
Now what would happen if we were hit with such an impact? Well, the impact alone would not kill as all (though millions of people would be killed). Due to the atmosphere heating the asteroid up as it enters, it gets VERY hot. When it collides with the water on Earth, tons of super hot steam is created in an instant. Rock is litterally vaporized, while more rock chunks the size of houses are sent out of the atmosphere. Upon re-entry, they too heat up and have the same effect. This rock vapor would begin to encompass the entire Earth and the whole planet was heated. And when I say heated, I don't mean global warming. The temperature on Earth would reach that of the surface of the Sun!! Everyhing would be vaporized and the Earths crust would be molten rock (just like when it was new).
All life is completely wiped out, nothing survives. Or does it?
Deep beneath the oceans (which no longer exist, the water has evaporated and is replaced with molten rock) are zones of salt composites and soil. The outside of the Earth is incredibly hot - and we all know the core is VERY hot, too hot for life, too. But in these zones, it is not as hot, and life is actually sustained! Tiny single-celled organims live the, and are able to survive such an impact - which explains life developing in the oceans, as it did.
Now what's more, is as these organisms migrate upward and evolve - eventually to the point they created us, is that the cycle is not over. Deep in the deepest mines in the world, found in South Africa, scientist have discovered organisms living in the crystals where there is no light and no oxygen. What is important is that these organisms, while they do not breathe oxygen because it is not there, they DO have the genes necessary to do so.
What does that mean? These organisms once lived on the surface where oxygen was present, but have migrated down over millions of years, and are moving downward away from the surface, constantly evolving along the way. Know where they're headed? The zones I mentioned before.
Could they be preparing for something? Could some instinct somehow be telling them to do this? I surely don't know, and scientists are currently astonished by it and it is being studied intensively. To think that life is able to protect itself like this is one of the most amazing things in the world.
It's things like that that make me feel very comfortable knowing that things simply don't happen by chance, and that whether it is his god, her god, or your god - I do believe there is a God - one that is orchistrating all of this.

Personally, I am very close to locking this.
I am not going to go into religion here. My beliefs are not up for debate and neither should yours. The whole reason this thread went awry has to do with the title.
Archelogists found a pool of water that WAS very important to the Jewish faith. It is well documented that it was used for ritual cleansing before entering the temple. This alone should have made it an important find.
Then somebody had to mention that it was likely the same pool that was used when Jesus performed his miracle to cure the blind man... Things went down hill from there.
I DO agree with REDZ that there is no bigger cause of strife and war than religion. There simply is no way to come to common ground when dealing with faith. Just look around at all the different Christian sects. They ALL believe the same basic thing... yet they cannot get along. Judism and Islam also come from the same source as Christianity... but can you find three religions who have locked horns more often?
So, yes, it is an important archological find. Yes, Jesus probably did visit it (It was proven that he was a real person due to roman records) but is it enough to start bickering and finger pointing over? no.
So I ask this... can we get beyond that fact that some people believe a miracle occured there and some people don't and just celebrate that an important piece of Jewish Culture, Religion, and even their ancient way of life has been recovered?

to me there are certain things that dont seem that right about each religion
yes i think that some of the rules were posted in order to keep people from angering other people if God wanted us to do EXACTLY what he wanted then why did he give us free choice to do as we please? why is it that were even here right now?
i dont go to church i grew up a catholic and am still kind of one in my mindset but to me there is no reason to go to church all this bowing and standing and all kinds of stuff just makes me question who put this in place in the first place? i stopped going to church when on one day the priest stepped up and for his gospel he told us that if we dont donate more to the church he is going to go somewhere else to me that is what the church is about think about it tax free, people pay there rent, they pay for everything just like a business and why? so one guy can stand up there for a hour and talk about how were all going to hell
yup i do agree with redz how there has never been more conflict between humans than that of religon "you dont believe in what i do so ill just kill you!!" what kind of crap is that? seriously does no one see that its a problem? who gives one person the right to tell another that they are wrong and now they must die for it? hell even if killing isnt involved who are you to tell someone else that they are wrong? how do you know your right?
i go to church 2 times a year because my mom asks me to
i go for christmas and easter i really dont know why but i do
i guess its like a family thing its one of the few times that my entire family gets together
has anyone played telephone before? where one person tell someone a story then they tell it to someone else and so on then at the end of the line the last person tells a COMPLETELY different story? now imagine millions of people playing the same game for 2 thousand years with a million different languages telling the same story some words have 2 different meanings so the translations could be mixed
i think everyone should just watch a few episodes of southpark lol
back to original subject
i can say that i found buddahs crack pipe in my back yard
tell me im wrong...
but if someone thinks that this is what they think it is and want to celebrate it i say go for it i aint gonna stop ya lol

i've done too many things in my life for me to consider getting into heaven. i, however, do believe that God exists and i follow the rules of religion as much as i can.
hear me now. i am not saying that you HAVE to or you SHOULD be religious. i respect your decision to do either, or. however, RESPECT those people who do believe and don't insult them.
btw redz, heresy. not, heresay. two different words.
i do agree that there are people who are overly fanatic about religion (ie. some muslims, or some christians) but you have to understand that they are just following what they think is right. they are never going to Force you to believe in their religion, they will present it to you and all you have to say is "go away".
i could see how you are somewhat frustrated about religion redz, but dont insult and degrade religion. you know as well as i do that religion probably helps 80% of our brothers to stay alive in the desert. you know what i am talking about.
