I haven't read all the details of the topic but somethings really hit's me about the rebar.

It's missing, it's obvious everyone knows that. But is your inssurance company aware you took it off? Isn't the rebar considered a part of the original safety packadge of the car? Over here in Quebec it's illegal to take it off, if I was in a similar situation I could kiss my inssurance coverage good bye.... and probably my inssurance company as well. The rebar is, just like the air bag, a safety mesure and canot be removed from the vehicule for any reason.

In a similar case not too long ago in Quebec, a kid took off the original steering wheel of is car to replace it with a racing wheel. The car was top shape, modified for occasional track days with a lot off $ invested in the car. He crashed (lost control) and when the company found out that he played around with the safety mesure on is car they simply cancel is contract and he lost everything.

QUOTE
I didn't mind sacrificing the rebar because I only cruise in my car. I don't rush, I don't speed, and I'm never running late.

This only confirmes why there are safety mesure on our cars, in 90% off the case it's to pretect us against the "other" drivers on the road.... If the road belonged to me and I was the only one driving on it every time I would never crash tongue.gif

it's also quite possible that if the rebar (the missing one) was hit-... it might be enough force to set off the air bags!

When you told me that you had been rear-ended, I though tthat someone had hit you from behind. After seeing these pics, I felt so very sorry for you!!! Talk about bad luck!!! But don't worry, and DON'T GIVE UP WORKING ON YOUR CAR! Keep going! I was pissed over what happened to me as well, but I didn't quit and I'm still putting things back togehter. Little by little I'm seeing progress. And you too, don't feel discouraged, my friend! These things happen to all of us at one point or another.

One thing I hate about our cars is our horn. I once wondered if there was a way to make that horn center on the airbag so that you just have to punch the center of the steering wheel. WTF is that little horn on the side??!! As if during an emergency one would really have the state of mind to search for the horn. I got hit just like you (someone backing up), but mine was at a parking lot (damn, me and the parking lots - LOL). It happened last year, but it was lightly and no damage. My steering wheel was kinda turned and I panicked and couldn't find the horn in the 2 seconds I had, as the guy was backing up onto me. I think you said that you chose not to honk, but did you try to as you saw that he was getting dangerously close?

You're not alone. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we're all here to help. If you need replacement parts, talk to me. You know that I'm going through the same types of repairs as a result of my remote starter incident, so I may have stuff that you need, or probably I can tell you where to get stuff at a good price.

Wow dude, that blows. Im not quite sure if the core support bolts in or not. But if not your screwed the insurance is probably going to damage your car out completely. Because the only way to replace it would be to cut and weld in a new one.

Hopefully for you , if you owe money on the car they will damage it out. Buy it back and repair it so all your works not wasted. Then make them buy you a real veilside body kit :-p

Sorry to see that capn. In one of the pics it looks like wheelarch dirt was dropped on the road when he hit you ... looks like it's in front of the car...but you can bet the insurance assessor will have a field day with the missing rebar. That's what they're paid for. You could lose those particular pics and bend a rebar....and hope he doesn't visit RDT.
Man you had so much work in that car ...dayyumm. I feel for you. I once reversed a truck into someones day old car....his horn didn't work and I was reversing real slow and listening.....like you I admitted fault and my insurance guy kept asking me questions aimed at putting some blame on the other guy. Boy I felt bad enough already. In two instances of me being run into, the other guy changed their story after admitting blame. Shame the young lady wasn't standing there when he backed up....that would have stopped him. Maybe you could hire her as a hood mascot....
Good luck with this.

Time for an update here cool.gif

After towing the tib and damaging the front of the driverside sideskirt I have been able to review all the damage. The upper core support was pushed back about 6-8 inches causing the A/C condensor and the radiator to bend which cracked both the fans plastic housing in many places and put small dent in my CAI pipe. I can still use the CAI but eventually since they are cheap I will replace it. The hood has been replaced by a generous hood donation from 01Steve. I'm going to upgrade the fans to fal fans and the radiator to this aftermarket one http://www.yourautocoolingsource.com...09/page/759818. I have a "f"eilside bumper in storage so that covers everything except the core support. The lower end of the core support is fine and the upper part is bent majorly. For a short, very short time just to get things going and get to run her again I will bend it back into place. This will get my tib all back together for about $400.
This summer I plan to buy a full brand new (never used or refurbished) core support and install it. They run for about $300 and I may just make it my very first major welding project with some help from family members (Don't worry, we do know what were doing). I'm actually feeling pretty good about the Tib right now. I put the hood from steve on last night and installed the center vent halos I purchased from strikeeagle. I'm going to install the door vent halos tonight or tomorrow and the interior of my car will be completely complete! I will make a thread with pics for those goodies. I am also installing FlyRyde angle eyes in my headlights which are sitting in my kitchen all apart and ready for install. I just finished baking them and taking them apart when I had to randomly run out of my house last night to pick up a friend. I have a good camera now so lots of good pics will come of the fixs to. I will start a new thread for that too.

As far as the insurance goes heres the deal. The Truck owners insurance has had me waiting for them to get ahold of the driver before they would take liability. This has had me worried but I just called them moments ago for a status update on the claim. They finally did get through the driver liability investigation and decided the Truck was at fault. They also have taken a look at the vehicle and decided it's totaled. So now all they have to do is figure out how much they are going to write me a check for. fing02.gif YAY!! This could take a couple weeks but by sticking with the correct procedure and giving the system time I'm am going to actually benefit some out of this. I'll let you guys know the value when I find out, otherwise look for a link here soon for "Angy's 2nd Facelift"

Thanks again for all your support everyone!!!

WOWZ! seems like I now have to eat my words, which I'll do gladly. Man I don't think our insurance people have the same rulebook....no way. I'm made up for you. Might just go a little way to making up for all the inconvenience....I can't imagine how much money you had in the car. Good outcome capn'. cool.gif
