Dave, there is full duplex satelite internet. It uses setalite to send and receive data. But those systems are expensive.

sometimes when you do not have a choice....

I know Earthlink used to have a deal with the Dish network. You could get a new dish package and they bundled earthlink's Satellite service in with it.
Pat, why is Cable internet gay? I have had both DSL and cable.. cable is faster.

it depends, in some aspects it's a little gay. dsl is more secure and your bandwidth won't fluxuate like cable. plus you have less latency. cable is typically cheaper for the speed you get though. but latency is sometimes whats really important (gaming).

as far as satellite. at first upload was 56k upload but I'm pretty sure even like direct tv's system is two way. yes it's more expensive, slower, and greater latency but it's 100x better than dialup.

Unfortunately though, this still means no XBL most likely.

LOL

Sucks mang.

I've had much bigger problems with speeds slowing down from DSL than from Cable.

well there are alot of factors, but technologically with cable your competing with your next door neighbor and the whole neighborhood for bandwidth on cable. dsl is a dedicated line and you'll only slow down if the central office runs out of bandwidth.

btw, I have cable, it's cheaper for us. I've got 4Mb/768k for 33 dollars a month + free cable(the cable co knows but chooses not to fix it!!). dsl was double that because of having to buy a telephone line we never used.

Have you checked into wireless internet. if you can get a cell signal you can get internet. it's not that cheap, but it is an option.

Well I found used dishes on ebay for like 100-200 install is like 200 and its like 80-140 a month! Wtf mate! I called comcast to see what is needed they said they need some equipment so I asked what equipment is needed to set me up...if its reasonable I'm going to ask them to split the costs I rather spend 400 and get cable over the dish...

Next I'm goin to contact qwest about dsl and ask the same thing

Btw wireless like a edge card is slower than dialup
