Avest, AVG, whatever it's called, two years, and no problems.

 

Norton is great, but will slow down your entire computer. The 09 version is supposedly built from the ground up, and much faster.

I use McAfee, since it's free through Commicast

BTW, I'm using the full version of AVG anti-virus, not the free version.

I'm using McAffe from comcast for the same reason, BUT, I got a nasty virus on my old HDD with it installed and auto updated. A virus from like 4 years ago. It disabled mcafee, and polymorphed itself so no matter what I did it wouldn't go away. Only thing I found that would get rid of it, and I tried Spybot, Adaware, and more, was One Care online from MS. It cleaned it out totally.

 

ESET makes an antivirus, antispyware, and personal firewall.

it's antivirus is called NOD32, and everything else comes bundled in another program ESET makes called Smart Security.

AVG and avast are two totally different antiviruses.


you can get ESET NOD32 and Smart Security off torrents. i did a fair amount of research on this and now have personal experience. it works great.

 

At the computer shop that I'm working at, we use the Live Onecare Safety scanner all the time, it cleans stuff out really well. Other than that CCleaner, Spybot S&D, and ComboFix clean stuff up really well.

Most of this stuff is fairly straight forward. ComboFix may hit as a Virus to some scanners. I suggest running the One Care Safety Scanner in Safe mode with Networking (unless in Vista).

Lol, anyway, for my PC I use a combination of two things.

#1 - Avast (free version)

#2 - Comodo Firewall Pro It's an open source software firewall that allows you to see every program trying to access your computer. It gets kinda annoying

sometimes because it has a pop-up that warns you about everything, but you can configure the settings so it's not as intrusive. The best part is it's free.

 

I've used many anti-virus programs over the years:
The one had most issues with Norton would bog down my computer;
McAfee Would randomly crash when it detected a virus.
Although these problems may not exist anymore I made the switch to AVG and have lived happily ever since. I also use F-Secure on my thinkpad and it is really good but obviously not free.
