They've been recreating lots of japanese anime movies... fantastic four, hulk, now speed racer, iron-man and gi-joe coming up--all of which i think will be horrible sellouts and all new movies suck. Lord of the Rings sucked bad. New Star Wars sucked bad. Resident Evil ruined for good... Speed Racer looks just retarded. I just got this news from attack of the show, Akira in 2009.

(FROM HOLLYWOOD REPORTER) – Leonardo DiCaprio and Warner Bros. are teaming for a live-action adaptation of anime classic Akira, which started out as a manga in 1988 and was adapted into an animated film by Katsuhrio Otomo that same year. The original story was set in ''New Tokyo'' in 2019, after a nuclear war. A teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment that taps latent powers, and the gang leader is forced to try and stop the destruction that lies in his wake. The new adaptation will be set in ''New Manhattan,'' a city rebuilt by Japanese money. DiCaprio will produce via Appian Way. Ruairi Robinson is set to make his feature directorial debut on what is expected to be a two-part epic. The first film is tentatively scheduled for a summer 2009 release

If you haven't seen the movie, even if you don't like anime it's a pretty decent movie and highly worthy of a watch. As for the actual movie... man when are they wake up going to start making some good high budget well scripted, visually appealing, instant classic movies and stop ruining some legendary productions for our generation? I haven't seen one. All of 'em are just for the money.

F4 and Hulk are lincensed from Marvel comics converted to movies, not anime.

Lord of the Rings was a novel, never anime.

Star wars was never anime, wtf are you smoking? Lucasfilm inc. rulez.

even though resident evil2 IMO wasn't that good they definitely did better with version3, but still is not anime.

of all the movies you talked about they must've been somewhat good as they probably made $2,000,000,000 together total in movie sales, rental sales, merchandise, ETC.

as far as anime, nothing ever beats Battle Angel . Dark setting, simple characters, easy to follow storyline, what true roots anime used to be.

as far as movies i am wanting to see this spring/summer, ironman is definitely one of them but i am not so sure about speed racer. more than likely I will be forced to go to that one from a GF of mine that follows that show like it was life itself.

They need to do trilogy, not just a remake of the movie version but a complete story encompassing the entire manga. Now that would be bad ass. I also look forward to the Robotech movie and Transformers 2 (cheese ftw).

But probably the movie I cant wait to see this summer is Death Race. Jason Statham will make a good Frankenstein, but it sucks that they changed the character's name.
Also David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone have to make cameo appearances.

i love akira but URsons is right F4, hulk, iron man are all marvel characters and hulk and F4 were created by stan lee himself so they are definatly not anime

i thnk that if they ever tried to do that story in a live action they would probably f*** it up. hell they messed up the movie when they re-released it in the late90's and they changed all the characters voices. i dont want to think about what they will change when some american gets his hands on the story.

you see what happened to spider man, he didnt even invent his webshooters.......damn hollywood........

I can't truthfully see them making another transformers movie just for teh fact that they killed off megaprime. of course starscream got away but he wasn't even a big character in the cartoon let alone have enough pull to merit him coming back leading a seige against the autobots. WTF, I just totally went off on that, lol. they might as well come out with a "mighty Orbots" movie, a fave of mine when i was a kid on saturdays.

HKC, are you stupid? LOTR was one of the best movie series of all time. It made a silly amount of money, and are considered very good, if not excellent movies in the eyes of MILLIONS.

Star Wars 1-3 were also pretty good, not as good as 4-6, but that's the reason Lucas did them in the order he did. He knew that the middle 3 would make the best stories and make him able to fund the others, so he did them in taht order. The end of 3 was perfect and lead perfectly into 4-6.

When are you taking that break you promised from the forums? I think you broke a section of your brain.

Yeah, they are, it's already in the works. Constructacons are going to be in this one. Rumor is they are going to have a way to pull Megatron from the depths of the ocean and fix him.

THe first was amazing.

Yeah yeah, sometimes movies change what you thought from the original, but honestly, if you prefer the original Transformers over the new movies, you need a girlfriend.

anyone knows that silly. my point is no new remakes have been good so here comes another manga anime to be destroyed. just look at the old indiana jones movies and compare them to the new one that's coming out. it'll make money just because of the name.

never seen it, but sounds interesting. i'll look it up.

nearly all of the hardcore star wars fans will say that 1-3 don't exist to them. but there will be a portion of people who will approve of anything with the label "star wars". any movie labelled "star wars" will make money because of 4-6 and only thanks to 4-6 because that's how good they were. any movie named "Lord of the Rings" will make money (they wouldn't sell the rights to some low budget producers, nor would they sell the rights at such a low price). To me a movie that makes loads of money doesn't define a good movie--but maybe that's just me.

true to that. I haven't seen Transformers yet though. I did think they did a good job with the computer graphics from what I have seen. They did do a great job on the animations for Pirates of the Caribbean so I'm ok with computers so long as your conscious mind accepts it. My mind starts doubting cartoons mixed with real-time. I get a stupid feeling I have to pretend when I see bad CGI as opposed to Jurassic Park (speaking of which III was another sellout that sucked bad)

i'll bow to that brotha.

Akira the anime was made in 1988. That's why it was such a good movie. Think about if they Made it in 2008--BRRRPP, you fail. Just imagine what would Resident Evil movie be like if it was made in 1979-1989? It would be a legendary, and creepy as hell like Aliens, Aliens 2, Aliens 3.

I haven't seen Resident Evil 3, but I didn't want to. The director of those movies are Paul W.S. Anderson from Mortal Kombat so go figure they're going to put Heavy Metal and Karate where they don't belong.

The new Bond Movies are sucking bad. Since when have Bond movies sucked? Never... until the latest ones.

i thought i was the only one who knew about that. but again though, the director is Paul W.S. Anderson. But maybe this kind of film is more of his league. I'm doubting it will be anything more than a summer flop.

I guess all we can do is wait and see. But the point I'm trying to make is that Akira is a big name and a great anime from 1988. Look forward to it, but be warned with the recent trend of sellouts there's a good chance it won't be legendary like it should be through my eyes. I also respect square-enix for not selling the rights to Final Fantasy VII movie because if they did in present day would be a disappointment. It's not ready to be sold by money or box office, but by moral.

For those unfamiliar with this movie, here's my favorite scene:

well i guess when a movie like transformers makes over 200 million you can make a storyline to bring back someone i guess. if they do, that will be fine in my book. no REDZ, LoL..., I didn't watch it that much, i loved the movie much better. they way you stated the movies HKC you stated that all them movies were anime first, that is what i was calling BS on.

but in the end, haha, if you gave it 4 stars and it won tons of academy awards, i still wouldn't like it. you are wayyyyyyyy too picky.
