Default 46,000 California inmates to be released early within 2 years

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/sc...,2337401.story

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ordered California on Monday to release tens of thousands of its prisoners to relieve overcrowding, saying that "needless suffering and death" had resulted from putting too many inmates into facilities that cannot hold them in decent conditions.

Justices upheld an order from a three-judge panel in California that called for releasing 38,000 to 46,000 prisoners. Since then, the state has transferred about 9,000 state inmates to county jails. As a result, the total prison population is now about 32,000 more than the capacity...

Great...get released, commit more crimes, end up back in prison...

they are prisoners.. f*ck em...

they dont deserve 'decent' conditions..

f*cking incredible how people fight for PRISONERS rights and comfortable conditions.. they should endure suffering and anguish while they are in prison, not just have 5 years at a 'decent' resort while wearing a orange jumpsuit..

utilizing the prisoner population for the benefit of the economy would solve soooooooo many problems its silly.. prisoner workcamps FTW.

if most of these douche nozzles had it 'hard' in prison you wouldn't see people ending up in there for a second, third and fourth time..

The report I heard was not "release" but "don't hold them where they are" and the distinction is very large. The State is now going to have to bleed money at an even greater rate (in addition to being WAY bankrupt) to house the prisoners out of state, maybe in Nevada or Arizona or wherever. Like the song says: You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.

That said, if somebody is spending time in prison I say make it as uncomfortable as reasonably possible so they will be disinclined to return. Don't leave them naked on a bare wet cold floor, but having to share a stainless steel wall mounted toilet with somebody else in the room is no great punishment. Take that from somebody who had to take a sh*t with somebody standing there telling him to hurry up as part of Boot Camp training. If it's acceptable living conditions for my military, you better believe it's acceptable for my prisoners.
