The violent crime rate in the US has dropped steadily since 1994. It is currently at record lows. There is no problem, just WAY more attention.

Those interested in reasoned discourse will note that, when the so-called Assault Weapons Ban expired in 2004...

the trend continued.

People are going crazy. 10 or 15 years ago you didn't see or hear about all this crap. YES, the media is reporting it more often, but why are these people doing all these horrible things? (shootings, stabbings etc..) What is wrong with people these days? Why injure or kill a bunch of innocent people? What are you trying to prove? What exactly are you thinking? I just can't believe some of the things I see on the news and read in the paper.

I totally agree.

People are under more stress and emotional imbalances in todays society. Unemployment, high costs of living, expensive healthcare, etc. Its easier to set someone off today than it was years ago.

I totally agree with that. Not only are these fokkers unpredictable, they're Phd. students! I'm afraid to go to the mall, to the movies, to a Popeyes! You never know nowadays!

This sh*t happened yesterday near my old job some 15 miles from D.C. It's a very nice, pleasant new neighborhood. Matter of fact, I got pulled over there for speeding a few years ago (testing my new sway bars). I pass her High School nearly once per week, and hundreds of times before:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9IPOM7Pmts

17yr old, pretty, smart as hell (AP classes!), accepted into University at 17, star player, model American...etc. Michelle Miller had just been recruited in the U.S. ARMY. The recruiter was nearly twice her age, also smart and received multiple honors and had his life straightened out. He had been married with another young recruit the year before but they got divorced. The new recruit, Michelle Miller, had a sexual relationship with this guy. She leaves her parent's house with their car, goes to help him with suicidal thoughts, then sends goodbye texts to her friends. Dude kills her, then kills self.

????????????

It appears that Floyderaptor is correct once again, and this time by a longshot. The crime rate is down.

It still doesn't answer why the criminals are seemingly regular young people and not axe-murderers.

Those stats don't change the fact that 3000+ people in the US have been killed by guns since the school shooting in Conn. I have a feeling you might see an upward turn on that graph after this year.

AND one of those graphs only includes violent crimes involving people 12 years and older. I guess violent crimes involving kids don't count?

Violence against children is classified differently because that's usually domestic abuse, although seems like the age that traditional violence is happening is getting lower. The stats for that aren't trying to hide the children involved, the crimes are just generally of a different nature.

I'm not pro-violence, I'm pro it's-my-job-to-protect-me-and-mine-so-I-want-the-tools-to-do-it-properly.

Not to mention that it's a right in this country. Not a privilege. I also don't like infringement upon any of my other rights.

My impression is that the 'seemingly normal people' are people with huge fails of parents and history of being maldiagnosed with ADHD and given brain-altering drugs to keep the filthy little MALES still and quiet in class
