A) Plugs are a must, yes. To be safer, I might even go two steps colder...
B) You don't start with a 50 shot... you start as low as you can and work your way up... I would also use the fuel nozzle for a higher shot on the lowest shot possible (ex. fuel nozzle for 50 shot, 35 shot nitrous). The only way to really test a nitrous system is to use it, and you want the most safety possible when doing it

Ham, those guys work their asses off to find out the optimal jet size, so I don't think you need to use bigger fuel jets. Just Stick to what the manufacturer recommends.

Fuel pump might be a nice upgrade once you go over 50 shot.

Meant for breaking in the system, not permanently. Better to have an extra cushion of fuel in case something goes haywire on the install.
