I got my shifter bushings over the weekend, and went to install them. Try as I might, I couldn't get the old bushings out! I'm assuming I'm just supposed to use brute force (once the end is free)? It seems as though it's attached in the middle somehow or has some sort of ledge I'm trying to get over, and it's not easy to put a bunch of force in there. I'm also worried about the one farther back as it's much harder to get to, and putting any force on it will be pretty tricky...
Any suggestions?

 

Wow :0 your car actually had its factory shifter bushings, lol when I got their in my car their was a bit of sticky rubber grease mess and maybe 1/8 of the bushing in total just kinda pulled it out with some pliers. Im geussing brute force, or a knife.

 

Would a knife do it? Wasn't sure if it's just plastic all the way through or if there's something harder in there...

once you pull it off the stud for the linkage, you can stick a screwdriver through the center and just pry it out.

 

^Bingo! Thats what I did.

 

You can easily take apart the metal thing which holds the bushing which is farther away. With it off the car it would probably be a lot easier to take it out. Search for the "gear link mod" thread.

StrikeEagle,I just got my bushing and it seems to be wrong.I got a 2 piece lrg and a 2 piece sml set. It seems I need 2 sets of small bushings.

 

Sounds like you might have gotten the set for the GK by mistake. I think they use a large and small rather than two small bushings. If I remember correctly, this came to light when the APE bushings first came out and everyone was receiving the wrong ones.
